Throwing random people in jail
I'm posting this because it's the second time it's happened where there wasn't confusion, but a guy most likely doing it to troll. I just get wordlessly jailed and set to less than 10 minutes during a round where I had done nothing. Confusion, framing or mistaken identity is one thing, but an officer acting in bad faith and basically reverse-greytiding isn't an IC issue because you have no real recourse. Officers being mean to a shitty prisoner or greytider are one thing, but jailing people for giggles should not be IC. One of the incidents involved getting forcefed so much liquor that I couldn't control my character for a signficant time and then taunted by the officer the rest of the round. I eventually tried to get revenge, and was (rightfully) perma'ed by the Warden. Because the security NEEDS to assume that everyone on sec isn't being a shit to function, and because the greytide. The whole escalation thing doesn't really work here because a shitty player who rolls security can hold all the cards and knows that they can fuck with random people and as long as they don't press harm on them it's "IC," and everyone will assume IC that sec is the good guy.
This does NOT apply to anyone who has done ANYTHING that might deserve getting jailed. This is for getting arrested for things like "looking at security funny" (the forcefeeding incident), or just getting tossed in jail wordlessly when you haven't been doing anything.
I was told by one admin that it's my responsibility to prove that no ling had used my DNA at all ever during the round for it to be an issue, which is also a ridiculous standard to put on players, we can't look that up, so I don't know why we're expected to "prove" it when you could simply ask them.

If someone is randomly being a shithead as sec adminhelp it.
The most excessive signature on /tg/station13.
Still not even at the limit after 8 fucking years.
The evil holoparasite user I can't believe its not DIO and his holoparasite I can't believe its not Skub have been defeated by the Spacedust Crusaders, but what has been taken from the station can never be returned.
OOC: TheGel: Literally a guy in a suit with a shuttle full of xenos. That's a doozy

Re: Throwing random people in jail
That's the problem. All sec punishments under 10 minutes that don't involve beating the prisoners are ruled "IC."
If a normal crewmember kidnapped you and fucked with you for 5-10 minutes, you could beat them to death and move on. If you do anything to try and get even with someone who is being abusive as security, you're getting a ticket to perma.
I want to make clear that this ONLY applies to people are not harassing security, breaking shit, spamming comms, etc. Instigating fights with peaceful crewmembers as sec just doesn't work with the current rules.

They don't because server rule 1.rdght91 wrote:That's the problem. All sec punishments under 10 minutes that don't involve beating the prisoners are ruled "IC."

Re: Throwing random people in jail
I was told, "Well that sucks, but it's under 10 so IC." The second time was, "well maybe a ling impersonated you, IC" when that had not happened to the best of my knowledge (and if I was a suspected ling, why would he jail me for 5 minutes?).
I think Kor followed up the second time and the guy said he "forgot" why he jailed me.

As I am only a trial admin at this point, I can not speak for the rest of the administration, but if I catch one of these admin helps, I will follow up on it. Throwing someone in jail for no reason regardless of the time is a dick move. That being said, because of the low time, if they have even a flimsy reason I'll probably rule it IC.

Re: Throwing random people in jail
I thought the entire don't ahelp for anything less than 10 minutes rules was to prevent sec from getting constantly spammed with ahelps about why they brigged greytide mcshit * 1000.
Far more annoying than getting brigged for no reason once every 1000 rounds.

Re: Throwing random people in jail
there's a difference between "I think my brig time for whatever I did was too high" and "I got brigged wordlessly by shitcurity for literally no reason"
If someone brigs you without saying WHY you're getting brigged, that to me, seems like grounds to ahelp.
Mistaken identity/8 minutes for breaking a window/etc is IC, but if it's actually reasonless, yeah no.

Re: Throwing random people in jail
I did try PMing this guy after you and Lemon talked and he claimed he didnt even remember you.
I was at a bit of a loss after that because its plausible in a chaotic round but also a really easy excuse to wiggle out of things.
We also really need logs of who sets someone to arrest because its incredibly easy to get other officers to grief for you by putting that big red W over their head.

In that particular case, I got caught up by disabler fire, ziptied by some borg (that part was also mysterious), and left there. Someone grabbed me, walked me to security, who told a decent officer who took me and handed me to shitty officer, who then told shitty officer, "I don't know why he was arrested, just search him and let him go" and instead the shitty officer just brigged me for five minutes and ignored me telling him over and over that I was literally just standing around. Maaaybe there was a reason but I don't know what it was.Kor wrote:I did try PMing this guy after you and Lemon talked and he claimed he didnt even remember you.

The first time, the forcefeed incident, was me getting arrested for "looking at sec funny" or something along those lines and forcefed a bottle of liquior I had on me. That was also ruled IC, which I don't understand, even though most of the admins here seem to agree that it's not IC.
