Why should this appeal be accepted?:
I believe that a permanent ban on a first offense when I have 85 hours of playtime with no incidents whatsoever is quite unreasonable. In any event, more context is needed:

This was an extremely long (4+ hour) lowpop greenshift, so I was already playing more loosely than usual. I got to know a few of the characters during the shift, including a cantankerous old guy who chastized me for being 'young and impatient', and some of the medical staff, including the lizard that I interacted with. I was getting into character myself, due to the relaxed conditions and the presence of other personalities.
I played for about 2 and a half hours or so of this (I cannot check because no Scrubby). Everything I said was purely IC. I gain no pleasure of that kind from roleplay on SS13. My character (a chemist) got blown up 3 times while I was trying to make meth in chemistry. I was completely gibbed on the second attempt, probably an hour into my playtime. My brain was transferred first to an MMI, then to an old corpse from the morgue, where I was revived. After this is when I started acting more unhinged, because who wouldn't after such an experience (again, speaking ICly here). I emoted 'looks at up your pants' [sic] to a random lizard and generally started saying nonsense on purpose, not just coarse things, eg:

Another 45 minutes later or so, I blew up again. The CMO (note that this was a different person, not the lizard. The ban note makes it sound like my comments were all directed towards the same person) tried to do surgery on me, where I yelled at her for not knowing how to do surgery correctly. This began a sort of mild antagonism between us that culminated in me pushing her into a door and her stating she was going to fuck me up. She started running at me, then I flash cuffed her and hid her ID in maints. I apologized to her over the radio, and was going to give her things back, but she started batoning me immediately upon spotting me and started calling for backup. That is when I started acting even more crudely. I told her that I would tell her where I hid the ID if she kissed me and 'maybe more', as the ban note states. Then more shenanigans happened, fights, etc.

I eventually was killed by the people defending her, and watched as I got nuggeted by the CMO, because I thought it was funny, deserved, and was just contributing to the general shenanigans of the round. The CMO carried me around while I conversed with her. I never disconnected. I was facing the consequences of my actions IC. If I just wanted to be a shitter, I would have just quit. I watched as people threw me around, then built a chamber for me in the showers where I was locked in and the shower was continuously pouring on me. This would be very unpleasant for a nugget. Again, funny. I got bwoinked at this point while people were still messing with me and egging me on to respond.

So basically, I said a couple of IC things over the course of like an hour and a half, mixed in with all the other silly things that happened during the round. That is my case.
I think the ban was extremely unjustified and unreasonable - certainly a permanent ban. I even pleaded with the admin that only a warning was necessary, to no avail: "[...]I have had dozens of hours of playtime on this server and this was the first time. Further, I kept it somewhat vague with most of the comments. A warning will be sufficient for me to stop."

Hey there.

I'm gonna jump right out of the gate here and explain what happened: my original assumption of this situation was that you tried to hit on the lizard twice throughout the round. Those were the grounds where I saw fit to apply a permaban, since it looked like you were boundary pushing on another player.
However I checked your side of the story against the logs of that round, and I was able to confirm that you directed the "smooch" comments towards the CMO, and piecing together the surrounding saylogs does make the picture that you were trying to make them angry by being a shitter more plausible, and the attempts to try something weird with the lizard player less likely. The original assumption came from a misunderstanding of what other people said, and because I cannot easily see who you talk to just with in-game logs.

This changes the context of the ban to me. I messed up by jumping to a conclusion too soon and skipping the process of hearing your side of the story. I read the situation, got emotionally charged and decided I heard enough, then I skipped forward when I shouldn't have. I'm sorry for that.

Before I move on, I still need to know where "My pingas is dragging across the floor", "Lizardo the leathery *looks up at your pants" (both towards the lizard) or "i want a smooch, maybe more" (towards the CMO) came from. This is a wild thing to say, even for insanity RP/ragebait towards the CMO?

Thank you for the mea culpa.
The 'pingas dragging across the floor' comment was simply me complaining that I was bare-ass naked while dragged across the floor face-down by the lizard, because I made my character /rest (since he was still fucked up and disoriented IC), so I was on the ground. Imagine how that would feel. They were dragging me into the big chemistry lab. It was right after I got my brain transferred to the new body. I was then asking for my ID, also because I was naked, which you can see immediately after in the logs you posted. It had no sexual connotations.

With regards to the 'Lizardo the leathery' comment, I'm not really sure why that's an issue. It's literally referring to the texture of a lizard's skin. This was when they were about to leave after dragging me to the lab and I was just saying nonsense. That has nothing to do with anything. Does 'leathery' have some extra meaning that I am not aware of?

This is not the first time I have referenced this in-game. I have called someone 'Lizardo the Foolish' on another occasion, although I truthfully cannot remember if it was on tg or Monke.

Regarding the other comments you mentioned, I admit that those were meant to be creepy/unhinged behavior. But it was not in a way that was sexually pleasing to me personally (OOC), as I explained in my first post. I just try to get into character sometimes. I have tried to play characters that are nice, or arrogant, or weird, or whatever. This is a roleplay game, after all. I did not think I would get fucking executed without trial.
Anyways, I will not repeat this behavior.

I must say that instantly pressing the nuclear shitblasting button on someone with a totally clean record --without hearing them out or giving any warnings-- that permanently makes them unable to play on tg or Monke, and then subjecting them to a lengthy appeals process, is not a very nice or responsible thing to do. I think that safeguards should be in place to prevent such a thing from happening, or at least people should be given the benefit of the doubt on a first offense. I believe that such power should be exercised with more restraint. This is my formal complaint, I suppose.

just for your awareness, we also have a complaints process which you can use if your appeal is successful. it is the subforum right next to this one. im aware you're probably already tired and irritated by ~processes~ but i thought i would let you know. all complaints are reviewed by the headmins and even if it is not successful it can open up conversations about our internal methods and attitudes etc constructively.

bonus paragraph: admins are sort of decentralised deputy style but all of our rulings etc are beholden to the will of our headmin overlords. hope this information was of any use to you!

In our rule enforcement guidelines we differentiate between two rule 8 situations: The situations where there's reasonable doubt to be had that the behavior was intentionally meant to be erotic, and those where there is no such doubt. We very firmly tell the first camp of people to knock it off, and the second camp of people we boot from the server without prior warning. This is how we are expected to handle these situations.

To me all of your comments seemed to be directed at the lizard player, that's why to me it couldn't have been just some unfortunate jokes, therefore it looked like active flirting/repeated boundary pushing against said lizard. In my mind this put you into the second camp, which was the reason why I went and no-warning permabanned you at all. The bad assumption happened because a. I didn't/couldn't check who you were talking to, and b. I misunderstood the accounts of other people. That's when I gave you the notice that I was going to permaban you.
Now, the way I handled the bwoink is the big fail here. I should've asked for your side instead of going full scorched earth "no going back now" in the ticket. You did have something important to say which would've added some reasonable doubt and put you in the first camp, but I didn't give you room to say anything. Looking back now, if I did that, there's a chance we wouldn't have this appeal at all. That's very poor conduct on my part, cause instead of keeping myself levelheaded I went "alright i saw enough, I'm just gonna go ahead with the ban". Therefore I am sorry about how I handled the ticket, and I am definitely taking note how not to handle it in the future.

Now, in this appeal you have explained and proved that you and the CMO had an IC conflict, that you seemed to be doing insanity RP during all that, and the fact that your interactions with the lizard were more limited than I assumed. I will get back to this once I close this appeal off, but for the record I want to confirm one last thing.

I said that soon after the CMO nuggeted me, if I remember right. Pretty sure it was after she or someone else said that something of mine got 'cut off', and that therefore I could not bother people any more, or something along those lines. I took that comment and responded with some more quid pro quo harassment to be crude. So yes, that comment meant what you think it did. I was talking about my dick.
Again, though, I thought that making it not-totally-explicit would soften the blow and make it more acceptable.

Also, I was seemingly wrong about one of my complaints in my earlier post. I saw that you apparently have some sort of ban agreement with Monke, because on the public bans list I can see that there are some cross-bans from there, so I assumed reciprocity. Soon after this happened, I tried to connect to Monke and got connection closed a bunch of times, so I assumed I was also banned there. However, I tried to connect this morning and I was suddenly apparently able to. I know that they are experiencing a DDOS, so maybe that's what was going on. If I was wrong about a ban here carrying over to both servers, I apologize and take it back.

Yeah, we do not have a formal agreement to do cross bans with Monke, or any server for that matter. The only way a cross ban is applied is when an admin reads a public website that collects bans from other servers and compiles them into one master record. We can take a player's server record into consideration and we may apply bans based on a player's record, but that's up to our discretion. As far as I can tell you aren't banned on Monke currently. It's fine that you misunderstood the connection fails as a cross ban, the DDoS has been extremely annoying and I wish it would stop finally.

I believe that you've proven enough reasonable doubt that all of this was meant for pleasure/gain. Before I move on to accept this appeal, I need you to confirm you understand that you'll be on a first warning basis regarding Rule 8 given the insinuations you made during the round. Please find other ways to act out crude/shitter behavior that don't go down the route you went during that round, even if it was meant to be completely IC. The logs I've laid out and referenced are good examples, because any outside observer can very easily misunderstand what your motive was. As long as you think ahead before you go down a route of crudeness/IC shittiness similar to this one, and you catch yourself before you actually do, you'll be gucci.
Once you confirm you've understood the above, I'll rescind the ban and replace it with a note. If you have any questions about what behavior is appropriate and what isn't, or if you have any other question for that matter, you can ask in this appeal or you can ask in a help ticket/ahelp. Once again I am sorry that I dragged you through a public appeal like this, I should've stopped to consider that your behavior was less of a big deal than I made it out in my head (cause it wasn't a big deal after all). And yeah, as dendy said already, a formal complaint against the behavior in the ticket would be made in the complaints subforum where the headmins are guaranteed to read up on what happened.

i believe that lifted permabans will not appear on CC, but i wrote in capital letters that your ban is rescinded anyways.
