Why should this appeal be accepted?

I feel that my actions were misinterpreted as grief due to an unfortunate combination of bad character name and careless attitude.

I was a roboticist. It was towards the beginning of the shift and there were low mats, so I was just killing time. I put a strange device into the EXPERIMENTOR and it started converting the floor tiles around me whenever I activated it, kind of like a dimensional anomaly would. The strange device converted 3x3 tile sections at a time into a random material, and had something like a 60 second cooldown. Sometimes it made plasma floors, 3 out of the ten or so times I activated it. I had never used the EXPERIMENTOR to activate strange devices before so I was just having fun with it. I walked out of R&D into the hallway as I was doing this, so I could turn the hallway into fancy floors. Some of it was grass, bamboo mat, dance floor, etc.

When the plasma tiles first appeared, I actually did stop and think before I clicked on it with welding tool, and I figured why not, the energy of 9 plasma tiles combusting is a very small fraction of something like a welderbomb. Delta station has pretty large hallways so it's not like I was intentionally trying to trap and burn people with the fire. No one was really harmed, so I did it a second time in a different part of the hall when the plasma tiles appeared again. I announced it over the radio for people to come see the "plasma fire". And then the doors to Engineering. In fact, turning Engineering's doors into solid plasma and igniting them was really funny to me. I think the reactions of most players that saw the fires happen were consistent with seeing the sort of slapstick pranks you typically will see here. It was like lighting a firecracker or something - totally harmless fun. I don't think anyone would have cared if my character wasn't named "Griffin Terry".

Not long after that, security reacted swiftly by sending me to gulag, and around the same time I got bwoinked. The responding admin asked me twice why I lit the fires, and then told me I would be 2 week banned.

I really don't feel I caused enough harm to meet the bar of what is considered griefing on this server, and I don't think the 3x3 momentary puffs of flame were capable of causing enough harm to meet that threshold. I do understand arson is serious and not something that should be done as a non antagonist, and I won't do it again.

I believe the most important factor here is the reckless attitude I was carrying, paired with my character named Griffin Terry. The admin specifically mentioned the name in the ticket, and told me that maybe I wasn't playing the game with the right spirit. I realize that this was a particularly stupid choice of name and had given others the impression that my intentions were a lot worse than they actually were. Looking back I understand this is why security and the admin had such a strong gut reaction to seeing someone with that sort of name start igniting plasma fires around the station, regardless of the diminutive size of the fires, or minimal impact on the round, crew or station.

The admin also mentioned my prior history of being banned for griefing by handing people explosive grenades hidden inside plushies as a non antag. I have learned my lesson from this and have never since handed anyone a lethal grenade as a non antag in the ~200 hours I've played since then, nor will I ever do that again unless I am antag.

I should clarify, that I have played as Griffin Manuel a few times uneventfully. It's not like I impulsively decided "I'm gonna name myself this funny name and start griefing first thing", more of a continuation of a funny play on words that is perhaps not as funny as I first thought.

I regret choosing the name, and I think especially pairing it with the reckless attitude of setting things on fire set a really bad precedent for myself. I realize now that picking a name that makes you sound like a griefer, and then acting like a griefer, is not really that funny or original after all. Moving forward I will do my best to avoid behaving in ways parallel to griefing, as I genuinely enjoy this server and I don't want my reputation to be tarnished by roleplaying as a literal griefer and then being treated like one.

You admitted to doing it because it was funny and I don't see how setting shit on fire randomly serves any purpose but griefing i'm not gonna lift your ban brother you set fire to things more than once

If lighting 3 spots on fire without anyone getting hurt is a 2 week ban, why don't people get banned for making bonfires? Is that griefing too?
