Off-station Ais and their station interactions

Post by TheRex9001 » #732665

Title, this is to discuss potential policy relating to limiting off-station Ais (like Charlie station or Golem Ais) from interacting with the station, mainly relating to malfunctional ai. One of the worst feelings is when you are playing malf ai and then some off-station Ai you werent aware off announces you as malfunctional on comms. To me it feels shitty to allow ghost roles to have such a monumental on station impact through Ais and I'd like a ruling on it. Something like: "Ais constructed off the station by ghost roles should not interact with the station".

This needs to be a code solution tbh; there's zero reason any AI on a non-station z-level should be able to interact with the station.

IIRC the code reason AIs on lavaland can interact with the station is that lavaland has a comms relay connecting it to the station.

I don't see as much of an issue with Lavaland bound AIs being able to, but Charlie should be right out.

Yep, should be fixed with code. We have the technology.

This is definitely a code fail yeah
We should do things like:
- Add a binary channel only visible to people who are synced to the same AI
- Make common binary only visible to things on the station
- Just not let you fuck with this stuff if you're not actually near the station
This is a preventative Forum User message to try and stop a perceived issue escalating before it ever really starts, and does not prevent the headmins from taking a different opinion and deleting my post. No formal action is being taken. No reply to this post is necessary. If you want to discuss the matter further, use forum PMs with me, but I have nothing else to say so I wouldn't waste the time.

I'm wary of binary channel changes since there's a lot of opportunity to lose how easy and flexible binary currently is. We could very easily add a "New connection detected" bigtext message for AIs when a new AI or unsynced borg is created (with exceptions to syndicate stuff). That'd at least tip off that binary is now compromised.

Off-station/ghost role AI should not be interfering in the station. If someone wants to code a solution to this (i.e. AI and their synced borgs have their own binary) then they are welcome to do so.
