[skorvold] Adminbane - Attacking a possible traitor

Post by Demonbane » #81387

Byond account and character name: Adminbane - The Mime (usually He-Who-Is-A-Lizardperson)
Banning admin: skorvold
Ban type (What are you banned from?): Server
Ban reason and length: Permanent, "Attacked another player for no reason with a mech, then logged when they got dunked back"
Time ban was placed (including time zone): 2015-04-06, 18:52:34, Pacific time
Your side of the story: Well, I caught what I assumed was an assistant (grayshirt, insulated gloves) with a syndie toolbox and suit in mining. All he said was "hi." I assumed he was a traitor, since he had traitor items and was in a place he shouldn't be. Since I was a mime, I could not question him, so I figured I had better crit him while I had the chance (being a mime I couldn't yell for help over the radio (yes, I know mimes can break their vows, but I am a mime of honor)), then take him back to the station to be interrogated. Unfortunately, he was quick and managed to escape, then KA'd me to crit aboard the station. When I got back up thanks to the help of a nurse, I was in cable cuffs. He yelled out for someone in security to come get me for a minute or two, and then elected to take me to security himself. He got me into the re-education room, and I logged, thinking that was the end for me. At no time did an admin contact me.
Why you think you should be unbanned: I was never told I was attacking a nonantag, even with the 7ish minutes that the entire situation took place. I never intended to kill the assistant, only crit, so he could be questioned. I believe that the admins should have contacted me sooner, because as far as I knew, I was fighting a traitor. So there was indeed a reason why I attacked him, and there was a reason why I logged. I didn't log immediately, I know better, I logged once I figured I was done for. Once again, I had no idea he wasn't valid, and I was not contacted by an admin at any point during the scuffle.

It was a post scuffle ban placed to get you to come here and explain yourself. Ban is lifted.

Thank you. Next time I find myself in a similar predicament, I will break my vow of silence just for you.

You could just like, not go full valid hunter and try crit someone just because they have a syndie toolbox - as a mime.

Isn't the syndie toolbox distinguished as such specifically to notify anyone who sees it "This guy is probably bad news"?

There is a difference between seeing someone carrying a syndie item and thinking 'he could be a traitor' and thinking 'GOTTA VALIDSALID.'
