Add Ringer to the departments

It happened to all of us at some point: You went to the science desk, you ask over the radio if somebody is there, and nobody responds. Eventually you break in, only to discover the whole department is swarming with them, each very busy with their important project.

It's not their fault, really. Sometimes you have to focus in on what you are doing, juggling all these windows on your screen, and a simple text over the radio gets lost in the noise of common frequency. That's why we should add a ringer. Make it really loud, so it grabs their attention, and don't put a cooldown on it, so they know when it's really important.

Holopads? Who uses holopads?! Nobody here thinks that holopads do anything other than be a way for an AI to show up.
We should move the calling functionality from holopads to telephones, because players will associate telephone with calling other people (because that's what telephones do irl)

To be fair it was added recently, within the last year and a half to two years.

I feel if this information is more properly signposted somehow (have it as a roundstart tip for a while? Change their name to Holocall Pads?) we wouldn't need these ringers at all.

The trick is to initiate the calls yourself, since the receiving holopad makes itself very apparent and will usually prompt a bystander to pick it up.

Wasn't what I meant - moreso that people don't seem to know this is a feature of holopads at all, at least in my case. People should be alerted to this!

u can use the "request console" to paste wgw on the respective department radios, maybe map them outside sci? ringers seem unneeded when there are like 6 other methods to ask for someone to show up

Maybe they are deliberately ignoring you. Either way don't make it spammable. Definitely give it a cooldown.

okay dude if the entire station is fucked, holopads aren't getting anyone, requests console isn't getting anyone, nobody is responding on common and you can't PDA anyone then maybe, just maybe you will have to accept that you will not get served this shift.

what if you didnt use the feature that already exists, decided to use another approach, and found that it has different pros/cons than the original option?

then you might or might not get the item, i dont see what the end goal is here. We have existing items to notify people that you want something from them, lets not recreate the wheel.

I like the goonphones more but mechanically the holopads fill pretty much the same function.

I think if the people who know about holocalls made a conscious effort to use them more i think other players would catch on, the ringing sound is annoying enough to force people to answer the call.

This used to be filled by departmental intercoms. I would often stand outside Medbay for example and use the medbay intercom to get the attention of doctors within. The colored text usually caught their eye. I wouldn't mind a return of departmental intercoms honestly.
