Think of Stellaris but on a much smaller scale. It looks super fancy, battles are showy just how I like em. I'm still getting into the game and learning how not to go fucking broke.

To be robust is not about combat prowess, it is the state of readiness for the situation at hand.

Lizards are good, for liquefying into Horatio syrup.

There are lots of gameplay systems, and I mean like a lot. And some of them you only have indirect control over.
It's not very intuitive, a little confusing to get into, and I still don't quite understand combat. It feels like I'm fumbling around in the dark. Probably the most lost I've been playing any 4X.

It does take basically understanding a large chunk of the mechanics for them all to fit together rather than being a jumble of 50 or so "What the fuck is going on" things at the same time. It does take a while for it all to click together though.

Turn 100, I'm fighting 3 different wars and I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm well on my way to an economic victory on hard despite not knowing what I am doing.
Mechanics not explained well:
How do trade routes work? What's the point of trade agreements? I have a trade HQ and a subsidiary with a clear path between them via starlanes through my territory, yet the game doesn't recognise it.
What's the point of diplomatic pressure and demands?

Re: A smaller not so Endless Space Boner 2
So there I was, playing as United Empire and enjoying the unstoppable march of progress, and all of a sudden I turn into the Mezari (Vaulters) with their logo, population, leader change and all. Now it's become the unstoppable march of scientific progress. I didn't expect that at all and it was pretty awesome.
I had wondered where the Sheredyn and Vaulters went, and now I'm pretty pleased at how much more versatile the factions are compared to Endless Legend.

The Vaulters were specifically the Mezari who lived on Auriga before it went to shit, even though they canonically escaped the planet the Virtual Endless still managed to blow their ship up, creating the tear in space-time that birthed the Riftborn.
