When a Security Officer pulled out a baton and approached him, telling him to "speak" because he was showing as an unknown, he wordlessly shoved the secoff, ran away, and threw a slip at the secoff. When he was arrested for this and gulagged for 200 points, he ahelped, claiming that he had been immediately stunned, arrested, and gulagged just for being unknown.

Why should this appeal be accepted?: I opened a ticket after a particularly poor sec interaction. The ahelp I opened with was as follows:

Caveman Johnson the secoff just gulagged me without asking the warden until he was already gulagging me, as well as taking my headset when I tried to inform the warden of this- didn't charge me with any crimes or anything either, barely communicated with me. Said "speak" and immediately stunned me when I had my ID off for a second. Randomly stunned Kraven Lockharte on the way to the brig too for some reason?

I was told this was being looked into, and asked what happened, in my view, and did so.
The admin then said that it looked different from their point of view, and I again argued my side of it.
I was then told that it "was(n't) the end of the world" "to get batoned as a non antag clown by a security officer", for... some reason.
I gave an admittedly rather bitter and sarcastic response, to which I was told I should have mentioned a topic unrelated to my initial ahelp (the state of the gulag).

While I was typing up a response to that clarifying that I wasn't ahelping about that, my client suddenly froze. I assumed at first it was from the DDoS fuckery or the like.
Then I tried to reconnect and was met with a dayban for banbaiting.
At no point was I "ban baiting". I ahelped the issue as I saw it, and further context was discussed with OrchidFox in the ticket afterwards. For some reason, this context is also missing from the ban reason itself.

I do not believe this to be a valid ban. This should have been closed with an "IC Issue" at most- a dayban for this feels like punishment for ahelping something that the banning admin feels wasn't ahelp-worthy.

Due to the peanut I'd like to clarify:
The initial ahelp reads "immediately stunned me when I had my ID off for a second"- I've seen a few people point to this as "this is why it's a banbait ban", but I would like to point out that this was discussed and clarified in the rest of the ahelp. When making an ahelp, especially for a stressful or infuriating series of events, it's not always going to be a long, well thought out essay. Yes, it would have been more accurate to say "went in for a stun on me" rather than "stunned me", but going over details to get everything from an impartial and objective third point is a vital part of how staff should handle ahelps. I did not withhold information when asked. The first thing I was asked, in fact, was my point of view as to why I had been gulagged, which was then compared to the admin's point of view (from logs) of the incident, followed by back-and-forth trying to get a better grasp of the situation from beyond what the logs alone can show.

At no point was I told "hey, no, you actually XYZ" and responded by saying "nuh uh". I didn't try to claim I was being griefed, or that the person was doing anything that required immediate and serious action. I ahelped the poor behavior of a secoff, all of which minus the poorly worded part of the stun were and are valid (IMO). Poor communication, randomly stunning Kraven, not following sec SoP, taking my radio when I tried to call the warden over that, and then finally only asking the warden about what to do with me while I was actively in the gulag pod (as an aside, they asked "Wardne Can i gulag this dude for 100 points" and then gulagged me for 200, but at this point that's a nothingburger).

Banbaiting (as far as I'm aware, as I cannot find an official definition of it anywhere) involves maliciously misrepresenting a situation to try to cause another party to be unjustly banned (or face other administrative action, presumably).
I did no such thing in this ticket, nor was I given any indication the ticket was headed to a ban, as I was banned in the middle of a response to the last message I was sent by OrchidFox (to clarify that I wasn't ahelping about the state of the gulag, nor blaming Caveman for it).

Firstly, I am sorry that you were banned while you were still writing a reply. Given your prior reply I had thought that you were basically done talking about the ticket. Sadly, there is no way for me as an admin to see that a player is currently typing in an ahelp, so this is something that happens every once in a while.

Ban baiting is an admin term that generally describes a couple of different types of behavior. The sort of "classic" behavior is someone who is goading other players into doing something ahelpable, like bad escalation, and then ahelping it and playing innocent. Lying in ahelps could be considered ban baiting if it's the person ahelping who's doing it, because the intent in that sort of situation would be to try and get someone else banned. That's not exactly what I think occurred here but that's the vaguest example I can give of what it means generally.

Why do I consider this ban baiting? There are a couple different parts to it. I'd like to break down my thoughts on the matter.

The first thing that struck me as weird is that you were ahelping what seemed to me to be an arrest of your own making. I do not understand your mentality regarding how you interact with Security as a normal crew member. It strikes me as excessively adversarial for someone who hasn't actually done anything to be arrested for. Why do you choose to shove him and run away? Because he had a baton? So what if that guy batons you? What's he gonna do, ask you a question? It seems to me that in the pursuit of avoiding any possible position of vulnerability, you just made things worse for yourself. I think this is a rather LRP way to play the game. It's not something I'd ban someone over but I do think it's relevant in the context of why you got yourself into this situation.

The second thing is that I feel that you are intentionally misrepresenting yourself instead of telling a clear view of the story. You completely left out the very important part that you fought back against the Security officer telling to speak, which seems to me to be the actual reason for your gulag sentence in the first place. I gave you a chance to clarify, as a self-reflection I think that I might have worded it better to make my intent more clear. Again you don't mention it at all. After I tell you directly what you did, you focus on what I assume was the reason you perceived him as a threat, which I don't really consider justifiable.

In the Manuel discord you seemed to focus on the fact that I mentioned that you were a "non antag clown", I thought it might help to clarify what I meant. To me clown is a role that is generally trying to be goofy and maybe mischievous in pursuit of some joke. I don't think it's a license to grief or be an asshole to people or something like that. It's also not a license for Security to abuse you as well. What I meant is that it's a non-serious, roleplay type of role, not a combat or antagonist role.

Additionally, since it's mentioned in the ticket. I don't personally care if a security officer has permission from the Warden/HoS before gulagging you, if it's a reasonable sentence, which it was in my opinion. I do very much dislike it when someone destroys the gulag out of angst and makes it unusable for other gulag-ees (and I thought that I had fixed this from happening, years ago), but being stuck in a perma gulag on accident is a different kind of issue.

From my point of view, you were ahelping what was essentially a procedural issue against the guy who justifiably arrested you and heavily misrepresented why you were arrested to make him look worse. The misrepresenting part is what makes this ban baiting, to me.

I hope that explaining my thought process has helped you understand what I thought you were doing wrong. If you want this to be overturned still, I will ask the head admins to take a look at it. Have a good night.

I'd again like to clarify that I was ahelping their general behavior as sec, not the arrest itself- hence mentioning them stunning Kraven, and only mentioning the arrest itself at the end of the initial ahelp rather than at the start. The start of the issue from my end was Caveman dropping a single unpunctuated word at me, igniting his baton, and coming right at me all in very short order- which I was trying to get across when you asked why I was gulagged, "in my view"- I was assuming you meant "what do you think led to the sec officer coming after you to begin with, as I've already gotten their side of the story", which is why I reiterated about the missing ID- because that was what caused the interaction to begin with. If I'd known you wanted a more general summary of the entire situation, I would have given one- which I think might be the crux of the miscommunication here, honestly.

I apologize for the caustic reply near the end of the ticket, I misread the comment about clowns and stun batons as "clown grief isn't grief" type commentary, which has always greatly irritated me.
