I agree that it wouldn't create a huge turnaround but I think you're underestimating how much MRP players like the protections of the ruleset. People like having protections against murderbone, they opt-in to a larger ruleset. That doesn't go away with highpop.
Man if only we had that epiphany when manuel was being created
We did? A lot of people wanted to see rule 4 muzzled. A lot of other people didn't.
If we had that epiphany in the way you are imagining how would it have gone differently?
MRP runs into the issue of if I want to not signup for murderbone fest I had to also subscribe to a bunch of other rules that felt unneeded for the actual problem which was REPEATED murderbone (both 1 person doing it everytime theyre antag, and several people doing it back to back constantly so there was no letup). I think it could be argued a lot of people didnt want "MRP", they wanted a game they could actually play without getting RRd on repeat but admins did not do anything about it.
The solution would have just been to make it on the base rules and not have bothered with MRP tbh, I dont understand why murderboning when antag is ok but rolling antag is not when the impact to back2back murderboning has more implications than someone just chooses not to signup. The game was "better" when the only tribalism was this server had pop and this one didnt, but we all subscribed to the same community, the same rules, interchangeable admins, etc.
It's a divide we cant really repair and the onus is on every future headmin team to accommodate both, all because the headmins at that particular time were too afraid to "stir the pot" or too ignorant on what should have been done. This is one of the failings of voting in people is that they dont want to do actually good things for the long term even if its not popular, and one of the things I quite like about the code side that maintainers dont have to feel like their position is at stake if they make certain people upset even if its good for the game.
