adjust station pop limits

Post by orchidfox » #779684

current values:
delta minplayers 0
icebox minplayers 0
meta minplayers 0
tram minplayers 15
wawa minplayers 15
catwalk minplayers 25
nebula minplayers 45

my opinion: i think that wawa and tram could be available in lowpop and delta should not be available in lowpop. i'd like to see a minplayers on delta of at least 25, maybe mirror nebula and set it at 45. i'd personally remove the wawa and tram min pop requirements entirely.

delta 0 minpop is crazy to be quite honest
This is a preventative Forum User message to try and stop a perceived issue escalating before it ever really starts, and does not prevent the headmins from taking a different opinion and deleting my post. No formal action is being taken. No reply to this post is necessary. If you want to discuss the matter further, use forum PMs with me, but I have nothing else to say so I wouldn't waste the time.

yeah delta 0 is insanity,

icebox/meta/tram/wawa being at 0 as the dedicated lowpop maps and the rest being at like 30 seems like a good simple solution

For now we've agreed to bump delta station to minpop 15, I've proposed the necessary config change and likely a 2nd head admin will review it and merge it later.

This thread is still open internally so I'll leave this open too for now, simply enacting our agreements thus far.

Looking at the reasons WHY these values have been selected, this is fucking bullshit. It's 'popularity'. That's why they are the way they are. Not 'function' which is why these configs exist.

Delta is twice the size of Nebula for departmental spread, but has a 45 pop min despite its default being 35. Delta itself, meanwhile, has a pop min of 50, because its fucking enormous.

This shit needs to get thrown out. The config shouldn't be used like this and it feels like an underhanded means of hedging certain maps out of rotation, or worse, might be actively skewing any data we may be able to get for population retention for maps. If Nebula is only showing up at higher pop, the pop can only go down, as an example.

We might as well tell our new mappers to fuck off if this is the treatment they're getting.

New Idea: set all pop limits for all maps to be 25. No more lowpop. two birds killed with one stone! im so fucking smart.

Also delta being only min 15 makes zero sense. its MASSIVE. 15 players is for sure not enough for irt if anything, catwalk, and meta are particularly small maps that dont need a population cap. Icebox is HUGE, given it has 3 entire levels to screw around on. Why its set to 0 dosent make sense either.

I dont think we should have a pop limit, maybe instead a "rock the vote" feature that players can vote on to decide if a revote can be called for another map, with admin approval. lets all maps experience lowpop, and show how they function on said maps, while letting players, and the overall admin, decide if "yeah, theres too little people for the map."
!!WARNING!! ATTEMPTING TO SPEARHEAD MANUEL TO BE MORE MRP LIKE A BOSS.

I agree that a min pop of 15 for Delta does not make a lot of sense. If you want a 3rd map in lowpop you can easily remove the pop limit on Wawa. Hell, even Tram is smaller than Delta. We could also work to include a proper lowpop map in the pool as a separate issue.

The way our map vote system works right now is dog water compared to the old system, it does ensure less liked maps get play, but the only way to stay on certain maps is admin intervention or very aggressive config pop limits. Otherwise every time a mapvote is called it will mean a map switch. But in lowpop your idea I don't think works too well, because rounds can go on for like 4 hours, and there's often no admins around.

I've played on Nebula less than five times and I have never played on Catwalk or Wawa.
Set everything to zero because otherwise I don't think I will ever see these maps.
