[DISCORD] velaachlorine9

Post by velaachlorine » #754617

Discord username:velaachlorine9
Commonly used names:Leonard Dryfus, Colonel Beef
Banning admin:omega_darkpotato, OmegaDark, Nutella/Ewe Kant
Ban reason: "?timeout apply 1252412123171262489 7d don't say "someone should shoot that guy" about anyone please, it's against discord ToS" Was talking about Elon Musk in polcon, followed up my messages with "someone should shoot that guy", to which I had been muted for.
Time ban was placed: Saturday, October 19, 2024 11:22 PM EST
Your side of the story: I was talking about Elon Musk in polcon, followed up my messages with "someone should shoot that guy", to which I had been muted for. Full log:

"you guys remember when elon musk asked how much money it would take to solve world hunger and how to plan it out
and when he brought twitter he said he was gonna level the playing field between leftists and rightists"
laughing emoji x 7
"someone should shoot that guy"

Why you think you should be unbanned: Initially I was joking, I don't think Elon Musk deserves to be hurt physically or otherwise, despite his actions. I hadn't read up on TOS in a while so I didn't think it would be wrong to make such a comment. This is not to say that I believe that therefore my actions should be excused. Violence, calls to it, and even joking about it, in this sense of where it wasn't followed up with a punchline or in reference to anything but at this point could be mistaken for the real thing, is clearly not allowed on the server so I fully understand my mute was completely justified. I also understand that in the discord, Í have been a repeat offender on some occasions, which ultimately lead to the mute duration. However, I read over the rules (again) and I hadn't found anything directly stating that calls to violence or joking about it wasn't allowed in the discord server, except for the Discord TOS rule. I repeat, I am NOT saying my actions should be excused, however, I am giving an explanation of why I believed initially that my message would've been brushed off and forgotten about. In conclusion, I am going to try my chances in cutting the duration of my mute. I love this community, and I love engaging in it and discussing rounds after they've concluded, and it's been a dull few days since I've been muted, and I hope that I can be forgiven and my duration cut, and if not, then I hope to grow as a person as well.

The problem is that
except for the Discord TOS rule
the Discord ToS rule is legitimately the only "truly important" rule of the discord, because Discord ToS violations get the discord server taken down. Being under the age of 18, for example, doesn't. We got one threat from discord already, and I'm going to ensure that we don't get another.

I'm glad that you've taken the lesson to heart, but I'm not going to drop the duration- "don't make calls for violence" is something I take very seriously.
Appeal's denied, unless you'd like headmins to take a second look.

i dont fully understand how headmin review works, i know its where you can ask a headmin to review your case and give their say in the matter given they have more authority/experience but what confused me is whether or not trying for headmin review have any chances of worsening your bans, essentially making it a gamble?

Headmin reviews do not worsen your ban in anything but the most extenuating circumstances, such as a Headmin review investigation revealing continued and worse behavior beneath the initial ban. We try to only ever uphold or overturn the ban, rather than worsening it. The last example I can remember off the top of my head where this happened was two terms ago, with the upgrade to permaban for TrisBanshou, who dug themselves a hole of transphobia and lamentations about "skittles-squads" and such— very extenuating circumstances, indeed.

The purpose of the Headmin review is to allow players who feel that the admin has made a faulty ruling to appeal to the highest power on the server— and if you wish, we will make our ruling on whether to uphold or overturn this ban as a team, after discussion. Simply let us know if you'd like to request it.

the only risk posed is if headmins make fun of you behind your back like mean girls from the hit film mean girls

I mean the fact there's a headmin in here and they're not saying they're interested in overturning the ban is basically a sign that the headmins aren't going to overturn it.

It's not like we're going to go "oh, this ban really sucks, but the player didn't ask us to review it so I guess it has to stay!"

It's a 7 day timeout for coming too close to violating their violent extremism policy, from the guide to how to avoid violating it: https://discord.com/safety/violent-extr ... -explainer
How to Avoid Violating This Policy
Don’t post or share hateful content or content that glorifies or encourages violence — even as a joke
While we don't expect you to know Discord's ToS and Community Guidelines, Discord do expect server moderators to know them and to enforce them.

And they're not exactly a bunch of gotchas. Every day thousands of messages get sent without anyone violating a Discord ToS they don't even know about, because they cover really obvious stuff. Like not doxing. Or not calling for people to be shot.

Sit the rest of your timeout out. It has 3 days, 1 hour, 7 minutes and about 30 seconds left.
