Rex9001: 9000 more

Post by TheRex9001 » #740851

Hi there! I'm Rex9001, and I've been playing this game for a few years at this point. My reason for running is that I love this community and the ss13 community in general and I wanna see how I can improve it further.

What have I done?
My list of accomplishments isn't very long but I got admin which was pretty neat, ran some events, made some maps, coded some stuff and recently started exploring further in the team as an admin trainer!

What do I enjoy in this game?
I like this game as a crisis roleplaying game, you're doing your job in this wacky place and suddenly some crisis happens! Usually as a result of said wackyness, maybe the clown told centcom to fuck off and now you have to pick sides in a station civil war over if the clown should be praised or hanged, stuff just unravels so beautifully chaotic in this game and I am here for it.

Favorite role?
If I had to pick I'd say AI or more recently bartender, trying to keep cool and make some drinks whilst the rest of the station decends into madness will never not be funny to me, its also just a good laugh to play a sort of straight man no fuss bartender and interact with the often times wackier elements of the crew.

In honor of this being the 20th headmin election, the d20 election I'll say some of my favorite TTRPGS. 1: Lancer, I love mechs, I love sci-fi, I love the combat, shit goes so hardddddd. 2: CAIN, Im putting this at 2 though I havent played it, but the art, the flavor, the lore, the theme everything just fits so well. Im looking forward to trying this sometime soon. 3: Definitely Wizards, a rules light ttrpg about pretending to be a wizard with sanctioned magic whilst you actually get your magic from another source, like being really buff and to disguise your real magic source you have to use glitter and stuff to fake casting spells, really silly short fun.

Da rule/big headmin stuff

Thanks for reading my points
Yeah, not much more to say! If you have any questions feel free to send em below.

Your previous headmin candidacy was met with a lot of positive response from manuel and the mrp playerbase. You were in the manuelcord for a while during your run, and interacted positively there with quite a few of the regulars. However, you left the discord shortly after your term ended and had some choice words to say about your time there.

As you are an admin already, I'm curious to know what action you took or will take on dealing with the bullying problem you are asserting exists there.

Are there any standout ruling from this term that you really agree/disagree with?

What was the last round of space station you played, what did you do, and what do you remember the most about it?
I play Culls-The-Leviathan and Chris O' Riley. Primarily on Manny

Im not sure how to get these as quotes so here we go:

On the manuelcord, at the tale end of the headmin election what I saw happen was basically a massive dogpiling on one person, now I'd consider this bullying, the response time from anyone with capacity to do anything wasnt the fastest and if they let this slip for a while what else were they letting slip. In relation to that specific incident after I left I talked to admins who had more direct channels with the host of the manuelcord (Would've pinged mods too but that was already done) and to my understanding it ended with a simple fingerwag. I do not intend on dealing with the issues of bullying on the manuelcord, to me it is a separate non official discord server, you join on your own risk. I will however prevent that behaviour from spreading onto the official TG discord, the reason the manuelcord formed (at least according to some of the people around during that time) was because of a past administrations failing to stop Mrp players from being dogpiled which of course pushed them to make their own space. I like Manuel and its people but the Manuelcord isnt to my taste, I was recommended to not join it and I didnt listen and it backfired. The server has likely grown in the past six months, but I want to give it a bit more time before possibly re-joining, likely until the end of the term to come. I can expand on this, if you wish but I'd like to do so in private out of respect.

For standout rulings, besides the very good rule 8 amendment I am very happy with the conclusion of viewtopic.php?f=85&t=36147 it feels like policy that follows the spirit of the game well, its still allowing it to be the start of suspicion but its a lot less TTT than having no ruling on it. Solid policy, thumbs up from me. I didnt really disagree with any policy pushed this term, the response time has been a bit long on the policy now on the tail end but that is due to personal stuff so I wont hold it against anyone. Sometimes the wording on policy can be a bit weird? Like "The best advice I can give is communicate with security e.g I set this guy to sus because he was snooping where he shouldn't be.", sus in a headmin ruling is kinda funny but it also wont be in like 3 years, not anything big but something I noticed.

I don't have the exact time of the last round of ss13 I played but it was about 2 days ago, I remember the gist of it basically I was playing a bartender and spent the round doing my favourite bartender thing, mixing unique drinks and labelling and writing their own descriptions. One of my favorite things that happened in this round was there was this assistant guy, he came to my bar to get a job basically so I gave him the job of being like a doordash guy but for drinks! So he snagged a few off my counter and ran around, now I never saw that money again but it was fairly funny to replay the moment in my head that I basically got robbed. Another thing that happened that round was that I mixed liquid electricity into syndicate bomb to make like a "syndicate emp" which would shock people, the captain came in, had some and then got shocked and then yelled something to the effect of "Garry you make the worst fucking drinks" and then he got shocked again. It was a really good time.

edit 1:
Played again today, met a sybilite who dapped me up and then I blood brothers flashed em, so we went around the station with laser guns looking for the chemist, turns out medbay is spider infested so we run to escape it straight into a goddamn plasmafire, whilst running from that we end up on the xenomorph sat(birdshot) and then get mauled by carp. So overall pretty classic ss13 experience, fun shift and that sybil moth was pretty baller. Then I chatted with ekat a bit in ooc 'bout the headmin election.

I'm otherwise fairly happy with where we are at in regards to our rules.
This seems like a lot of work for a headmin team, with the sheer amount of rulings and changes to the game over the years. How are these reviews likely to happen, how often do you think rulings will be changed, and will you be recruiting non-headmins to help with this workload?

Thanks for the question!

I really doubt it, I plan to review the older rulings and from a quick glance I was able to find these. These reviews are likely to happen by me going into headmin bus and saying ”Hey can I remove this ruling its not relevant (i.e gluttony” or ”Hey can we try to update this ruling” then we’re spit ball a few suggestions before landing on a conclusion. I think a headmin ruling needs to be changed when it is not understandable due to content being removed or added, may that be rules or code (once again gluttony), for the security one Im likely to just rattify it as a headmin ruling. I do not think a ruling has a set expiration date, its just based on making some sense. I would recruit non headmins through policybus and discussion if needed, likely in a more ”megathread” style format, though I highly doubt the work would reach such a volume that this is needed.

You should buy a knighthood from Sealand since it's less of a scam than Established Titles.

Happy thread bump.

Very solid campaign thread.

What is something you'd like to do in/for the community (aside from being headmin) that you haven't gotten around to yet? What are the barriers stopping it from happening?

Can you share a time where you managed a difficult ticket and it resolved with everyone feeling better about it? How did you navigate to that solution?

Hi Rave! One thing I'd like to do in the community aside from being headmins is try to run one of my more recent map events, like a big moving trainstation, I was working on it but then the whole wallening thing happened and before that my map corrupted :( Currently my only barrier stopping this is motivation, Im more motivated to run for headmin than I am to make and run this map event.

Its hard to pick a specific ticket for me, so I'll bend your question and pick an appeal instead. viewtopic.php?f=34&t=34620&p=697981#p697981 was a pretty hard appeal, because initially I just went towards "should I dismiss this instantly, they killed a bunch of people with xenos", I asked some fellow admins opinions and it led to a big bus argument over if xeno queens could be affected by sentient potions and after a code dive we figured out that it cant so I went to go dismiss it, but then I had a chat with another admin who pointed out the fact that the player was new and this led me to fit all the pieces together, it wasnt reasonable for me to uphold a ban like this on someone who did not and could pretty much not know that xeno queens were unaffected without codediving or having tested it before. This led to me overturning the ban and replacing it with a note about xenos being unable to get sentient potioned. This appeal affected me a lot and I went out feeling better about having overturned this ban, I reckon the player did too.

This appeal affected me a lot as an admin in a good way, the most important thing when enforcing the rules is rule 1, and this person very much so was not a dick and not acting in bad faith, they did not know what their actions would result in and I do not think I will ever place a ban like this again.

Well bros I might not have won but thank you for all the support. I will be working on implementing my policy and mainly my events workshop during this term. Thank you for all the votes, getting 2nd in player vote and 3rd in admin vote is amazing and a step up from last time I ran.
