Hi, I'm Autistic, you can call me Fuji though - we aren't on that level of familiarity yet. I'm going to save you a few minutes of your precious time and get this right out of the way: I'm not going to win. I cannot win, mathematically, if all of Manuel votes against me, it's simply not possible and in the wise words of oranges: this is a stupid platform and I shouldn't be running. I am going to run anyway. Why? There are two reasons: The first is that it will be funny, and that's what playing games are all about, right? Having a hearty chortle; being entertained. I'm allowed to run so I will run. The 2nd is I want to highlight an issue with our current server setup: having headmins that have to cater to the interest of both lrp and mrp players, two very distinct and separate types of players, is kinda silly. When I don't win, I want you to remember that rules aren't real and that the next headmin term can instate separate headmin elections for MRP possibly with some help from MSO. OR WE JUST KILL MANUEL AND TRY TO LEVEL THE FIELD. I will not change core parts of my platform to win this election, I'd rather delaminate than become a politician for this dated windows xp malware look-a-like game.
Backstory: I admin on Sybil sometimes and I'm an old enough Sybil player to feel the weight of a thousand dead players on my back. You don't care about this though. What actually matters is I wrote two pieces of smut on Sybil in 2018, Moths to a Lamp 1 and Moths to a Lamp 2. Shameless plug you should give them a read if you want a laugh. I like the bee emote. I am heavily pro player, I play about as much as I admin. I think a word-of-law mindset for rules has crept into our servers that completely miss the benefits of the context driven admin style that TG has had for a long time.
My main goal is to help player counts on Sybil, and convert LRP back into RP by nuclear destructing Manuel. I like to leave my doors open to general rule / config suggestions from players. I'm big on trying to push forward ideas that PLAYERS support. I'm not the only one playing this dumbass game and I need other experiences to make good changes.
Anyway, moving on, let's get into some bad ideas yeah?
Perfectly Unreasonable Ideas that Would Work Great
KILL MANUEL
Okay, Fuji, what the fuck does Kill Manuel even mean? I'm glad you asked brainworm! I want to remove most, if not all of the specific MRP rules that Manuel has and instead convert the server from MRP to RP. I would similarly like to remove the LRP label from servers and name them RP as well. I am willing to concede on only the antag specific limitations but I otherwise want the label of MRP to be atomized.
Why? In ages past, we did not have an MRP server, and instead roleplay occurred at a much more frequent rate on what are now known as LRP servers, previously just RP servers. The creation of Manuel caused a mass exodus of players to Manuel that contributed interesting roleplaying experiences for the more mechanical players of the game. I do not believe that more rules create more roleplay. Players create roleplay, and server cultures create roleplay. Despite the relaxed ruleset of 2018 Sybil, a beautiful harmony was struck for me between people that played the sandbox and people that played for roleplay. I want that back. Even without the MRP rules for all intents and purposes the Manuel culture is strong enough to maintain a very strong base of roleplay driven players.
But Fuji, isn't that just rose tinted glasses, do you have any data to back that up? Yes it's rose tinted glasses, stop encroaching on my specific, indescribable game feel. If you bring up roleplay statistics, whatever the hell those are, I'm going to nerd react you.
Implement Scaling Threat by Server Shamelessy ripped off from Xemo
The premise is pretty simple here. Every server, based on config, will be assigned specific target threat levels that should vary a bit but mostly stay within a set range.
Terry = High Threat EU (Terry players are very mechanical, I think they will appreciate higher threat levels.)
Bagil = High Threat US (Originally, I wanted to merge Bagil with Sybil and create Babil to help with player counts, but someone pointed out ping issues for US players, so I figured US players might want a High threat server .)
Sybil = Medium Threat US (The normal SS13 experience, a mix of combat, mechanics, and hopefully some good roleplay as well.)
Manuel = Low Threat US (Given that this was, and culturally, probably still will be a very RP driven server, the lower threat will help create slower passed rounds.)
Campbell = Medium Threat EU (Campbell is going to get really interesting. To be quite honest, I don't really know what threat level would be good for the purposes of sandbox. Let's get into Campbell shall we?)
The First Sandbox Server: Campbell - RESPAWN edition
I have actually played on Campbell a handful of times. The player base of Campbell is incredibly focused on long term projects and ensuring that all players remain alive and in tact so they can go about having fun in the sandbox. I wanted to protect this, but I don't like rules. So I thought to myself, how can we help players fuck around with cool helpful contraptions, or collectively mutilate themselves in the sandbox without enforcing rules to keep Campbell like Campbell?
It's simple, we just turn respawn on. Campbell will now be unlimited respawn enabled. If this turns into a RDM that interrupts long term projects, I may lay down some rules to protect that playstyle, but this will also let players mess around and experiment with antag tools on each other if they so wish will minimizing the repercussions.
Player First Mindset Changes
In general, I want to protect players that DO NOT have ill intent from accidental rule breaks, and give them more agency over what maps they are playing. Here are a few examples I was able to scoop out of my last 3 brain cells.
Encourage Admins to Run Custom votes and Change the Map to circumvent trickle down map voting: Sometimes, the player base does not want to play on icebox twice in a row, maiming the population. The actual trickle down voting mechanic is apparently non configable (wow), so I can't promise it as a change on a headmin platform. Hypothetically, if someone were to make this a config change, I would just change the config so that players could have more agency over what maps they are playing rather than having map changes be done by admins. Hypothetically... of course. This would never happen, and I'm not winning anyway so stop worrying about it.
Push for more Positive Notes: I like giving positive notes when people do something cool in game. Dale Carnegie was really onto something with all that positive reinforcement being better than punishment stuff. This is a game man, why are we giving people wrist slaps for accidentally doing THE NEXT thing I'm about to talk about.
Do not prosecute players on the basis of metagaming for making bug reports mid-round: Yeah, let's enforce a rule that is actively detrimental to the game's development. Why could this happen again?
Super Soft and Fluffy Punishments for First Time Policy Breaks: You can't expect people to dig up a crusty old forum about a policy in 2016 and know that is EXACTLY the thing they shouldn't be doing. I'm an admin and I don't even read the rules, so I think we can do everyone a favor and just not be that hard on super niche policy breaks.
Something Something Kurt SS14
I'm not going to think too hard on this one because I'd rather focus on and play SS13. There was old project that fell to the wayside called Kurt, an SS14 server with /tg/ rules and tg administration. It didn't garner much interest then but now that a lot of ss14 servers have become more heavy handed in their rules maybe a few people will like having a /tg/ ss14 server? Who knows. I'll see if I can get this up and running again with some help.
CUM Reacting: RETRIBUTION:
A while back reacting with the regional codes C U M on newsbus post was banned. I did not forget. I have not forgiven. Jokes aside, this was just another super niche and silly rule on something that was ultimately silly and harmless in a game with TONS of already eyeball squinting references. This is an 18+ server, let the people cum react god damn it.
But Fuji... this hurts our COMMUNITY image, don't you want people to not be weirded out by our ultra niche, weird as fuck game? Dumb silly things like this give a community a weird charm. And besides, practically anyone who will be playing this game for more than 5 hours is eventually going to learn about the library. If photocopied felinid ass and the library aren't going to filter someone then this isn't going to.
Yeah that's it, have a picture of my sleeping bnuuy.
By the way I'm voting for goof.
