Discord .roulette policy

Post by TheNbdyOfImportance » #743287

Hi ho candidates!

Our beloved discord bot has a variety of nifty features that can be used in our chat rooms, and one of those is the .roulette command which mutes you for 10 minutes^times people were shot within the last 10 or 60 minutes should you get unlicky. Sadly, in response to recent admin interventions unmuting players who were shot with a few days mute all the way to a full month mute, oranges disabled the roulette command.

Now with context out of the way several users have expressed dissatisfaction with the command being disabled, myself included. What is your opinion on this? Should roulette mutes be unappealable? Do you plan on convincing oranges to bring it back? Or is roulette a relic of a command to be put away for good?

:flash: I command you to bring back roulette

If it's clogging up main it should go into the bot channel exclusively and people should take what they roll, no appeal.

Why would you risk for and then throw away the opportunity to radically shift for a month.

The results of a roulette bot appeal should also be decided by that same roulette bot. I don't want unlucky people in this community.

Chiming in because I'm allowed to and I think it's useful info for any fresh incoming headmin: Just use the rules for this one. Discord is meant for discourse in the rules, and spamming obstructs discourse. Hence, it should be disallowed in all spaces that don't exempt spam. Use the foundations of what you already have and just fire from the hip on stuff like this. Saves so much time.

San, as always, with sane and good suggestions. #you-spam-bots, an unappealable status, and letting oranges deal with the bot how he wishes, for me. I really feel like if you fuck up massively and take a month-long L, it's on you, but it's also not necessarily fair on top of that to come crawling back to the jannies time after time begging for an unban. I've eaten a weeklong ban and I took it with a shit-eating grin, just got mildly annoyed at times. If an admin fucks up and nets a ban like this, I still don't think it'd be fair to let 'em be unbanned just because they're an admin with the exemption of needing to use the bus to talk to other admins about an appeal or something— but then again, really, guys?

With higher responsibility comes higher standards, and getting owned by a roulette bot ego check is hilarious but also insane, and why I've only messed with it on low-stakes loads since.

For transparency, the admin team was asked by the headmin team via an admin notification channel not to remove roulette bot timeouts. I vibe with the idea that the increasing roulette timeouts is a self-solving problem. As long as admins aren't removing them, that is.

And here's what led to the roulette bot being disabled: An admin removed a 27 day roulette timeout against the above headmin team ruling, so I timed that admin out for 27 days in return and told them to DM a headmin and explain themselves to get the timeout removed.

This caused drama in the admin channels, since I mirrored that removed 27 day timeout against an admin. The drama led to a lot of fuckery and the roulette bot being disabled.

If I get headmin, I will request the roulette bot be re-enabled and continue timing out admins and/or getting them added to the timeout bot blocklist and/or demoting them if their conduct means we can't have dumb things players enjoy using.

I will push to modify admin conduct to state that Discord bans and timeouts are no different to in-game ones. They should only be removed by the person whom placed them or with that person's consent. Since bot timeouts don't have an attached admin, their removal is at the discretion of the Discord Jannies providing the headmins allow them to do this. Breaching this would be a serious conduct issue on-par with removing another admin's in-game note or ban. And I would vote against being able to remove roulette timeouts as a Headmin.

Easy answer, bring the roulette bot back and the bans are unappealable.

I'd support bringing it back, with no appeals (own up to your decisions), and 7 day cap.
I have a confirmed grand total of 1 merged PR. That basically means I'm a c*der now. 8-)

might be more true to say they redirect the dogpile most of the time tbqh, like diving heroically onto a grenade
