To me the biggest issue is the sprite and if you’re a gun appreciator in video games you may feel the way I do that the gun sounds like another, bigger gun. Like a pulse rifle.

As for the functionality I lag too much for combat but I was shot with one and bled out in cuffs so against humies at least it seems overpowered. But then as Anne pointed out you wouldn’t be shooting someone in the process of arresting them with the gun it’s replacing either.

I have an old doc I was pitching to a few maints if you want me to spruce that up again. I think I did it in response to ryll's initial look at projectile balance, with category based values and more generic ammo types. That said I think it was pre-wounds so I have no idea how usable it is now.

Trying to condense weaponry to be aligned armor wise I think is still a good move to go about this (unless someone wants to overhaul everything at once which is doubtful), then you HAVE to compare apples to apples versus apples on thursday to oranges on friday

no you use each differently to compensate for its weaknesses/strengths. do the same with thermal pistols, they're actually better in some ways than autorifles if you give them a shot

We've run like this for a while with good success in keeping most of our participants reasonable. Discussions can flare up into insults and we don't want people worrying about rules when having indepth discussions on code or when wording their arguments.

Thermal pistols are... Decent? They're good at bringing down people, but not so good at killing mobs/xenos/blobs. You get 16 shots, that should be more than enough to kill anything that moves. 1500 creds is a good price point as well.

I don't see the need to remove autorifles (even if they aren't used a lot) but these guns are a solid addition

Might be nice if instead of straight-up replacing auto-rifles they were implemented alongside them. it is generally a good idea to do this instead of straight-up replacing things, then after about 3 months if you find auto rifles are not being used, you could remove them then.

Yeah true. All of our other pistol-like weapons are either sidearms or ambush weapons not intended for extended firefights like the thermal pistols are (not like they can't be used that way, it's just not their primary purpose).
Minor inconsistency by my account, the role it fills seems like it would be better as a longarm-styled weapon.

You habe eguns that go through glass and have limited ammo versus DESTROY EVERYTHING BALLISITICS that will eventually catch you through an opening or just smash all the windows in the way. Now eguns or lasers are just objectively better all the time forever.

They're not a strict improvement over lasers for this reason. I think the ability to shoot through windows is something worth considering when choosing how to arm, and why preparing properly can be a boon. Nothing stops you wearing the thermals on your belt and lasgun on your suit storage slot. You can wield both pretty easily.

Yes, lasers have some positional advantages over thermal pistols. That's their definitive upside to me. To be able to hold positions with windows alone. That and having a high capacity in a single gun.

There are, however, situations where the lasers do not work as well. Someone is spamming EMPS (thermals are immune to this), someone has energy deflection (thermals go right through though are stopped by block all the same), or a monster is mostly affected by brute like lavaland fauna (the cryo pistol helps here).

Practically speaking, many hallways are open spaces, and maintenance tunnels aren't usually permissive of lasers being used to their full potential, so the differences aren't going to be very commonly appreciated. But in areas of heavy glass vision (like security checkpoints and windowed airlocks), lasers are your friend.

Thermal Pistols are fine, But they need to change the temperature of opponents, So you don't have to powergame a temperature gun,

It takes 4 shots of a temp gun to make them activate a thermal pistol property, (explosion) temp gun shots pierce armor, The 5th shot from the pistol will very likely kill the opponent, just like 5 lasers will take down an unarmored opponent, Its just that temp gun and pistol combo will penetrate armor MUCH better, making it more deadly against traitors, the cold temp from the gun will also slow them down, don't forget leprozaine overdose!

Interesting guns, Want to see them more, they suck against xenos, but HOLY SHIT USE LASERS ON XENOS, AND TRAVEL IN GROUPS

I observed an admin practising with thermal pistols in the Thunderdome once and it was very easy for them to trigger the explosion simply by firing 4-5 shots with one gun then switching to the other.

they were using a temperature gun, not the alternating pistol. 4-5 shots is indeed exactly the amount of shots I aimed for, so it appears to be working as intended.
