Sabotaging Escape Shuttle
Some asshole just planted c4 on 3 of the engines andi good god their all gone with only 2 engines left it'll take awhile to get to centcomm.
The idea is someone could sabotage the shuttle to extend the round for a couple extra minutes perhaps cult just needs 5 more minutes to get narsie rearing to go and in the 5 minutes it takes to get to station cult summons narsie or perhaps a traitor has to assassinate a target in the 5 minute shuttle ride people will get ornery and itll get chaotic its a bit claustrophobic perfect place for a murder with a silenced pistol. Perhaps he didn't sabotage the engines but someone else did perhaps for some other motive

Re: Sabotaging Escape Shuttle
OK, but you have to sabotage the engines BEFORE it takes off. After all, if it's already moving fast in space it will keep moving fast in space due to !!physics!!
In game, I play the A.I Firmware, the French cyborg C.U.R.I.E, Aubrie Allen, and the lizard scum Skulks-Through-Maintenance.

Re: Sabotaging Escape Shuttle
It would be interesting to tie ship speed with the engines. But there would have to be a hard cap to the time you can reduce it by.

Re: Sabotaging Escape Shuttle
I always thought the shuttle is continuously accelerating through the trip, because if you fall out you are immediately left behind. So maybe with less motorpower it could continue accelerating but with less acceleration, resulting in a longer trip.Drynwyn wrote:OK, but you have to sabotage the engines BEFORE it takes off. Or it could be an objective, especially if the bridge has some console that lets you overload the engines as well with an emag.Steelpoint wrote:It would be interesting to tie ship speed with the engines. But there would have to be a hard cap to the time you can reduce it by.
"Sabotage the escape shuttle" with no requirement to escape personally, just survive. Maybe even not that. Round still ends when the pods get back, could replace escape alone or supplement it.

Re: Sabotaging Escape Shuttle
ok guys it's time for a lil' PHYSICS
sir isaac newton, he was a pretty cool guy, he made theories about what went down in physics and he got 'em all right
one of these was called his First Law, it was basically about not harming humans and no-- wait no that's isaac asimov
isaac newton's first law was the law of inertia. it said that something that's moving is gonna carry on moving, and something that's resting is gonna carry on resting, until something else stops it. that's why when you space a tater, their body keeps moving in space, even though you're not throwing it any more.
so the escape shuttle has constantly firing engines, ok.
it fires all its engines off and it starts going faster. and it continues at this speed because there's nothing to stop it.
it keeps firing its engines during the shuttle ride... and it gets faster still. every second of engines being on, equals more acceleration - and more velocity - for the shuttle. you fall out and gee gee you're not getting back because it's already a million miles away.
so at the end of the round, when this shuttle has had its engines on for three minutes straight, in space, that escape shuttle is gonna hit centcom with the force of a gazillion atomic bombs.
boom
this is why actual space vehicles turn around when they're halfway there; newton's law will keep them travelling, and they have to fire the engines in the other direction to slow down.
less engines before the halfway mark is gonna mean it's harder to speed up, and so it'll take longer to reach maximum velocity. (it's possible centcom planned for this, and installed a different maximum velocity - so it just takes longer to get there)
less engines after the halfway mark means it's harder to slow down, and so it hits centcom with more impact. also harder to speed up but you're not trying to speed up.
tldr blow up dem fakken engines before the halfway mark or your shuttle is gonna hit the bombcap when it reaches centcom.
because the engines are the thing that slows you down so you don't go splat.
k physics lesson over
it'd be great if you could sabotage all of that type of engine; escape pods go awry and blow up when they hit something, or don't launch at all, etc. shuttle crashes if exploded before the halfway mark, and the time-to-arrival (as well as the halfway mark... so you can strand the shuttle by blowing up all its engines) increases if exploded after the halfway mark
maybe you can repair them with plasteel or something, like the gravgen

I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a durand mech with a simple vertical slash.
Ever wonder why Syndicate never bothered conquering Mining? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined miners and their katanas of destruction.

Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest son-of-a-bitch in space!
I dunno about this, the shuttle ride is griffy enough with the current time.

Re: Sabotaging Escape Shuttle
New escape objective: sabotage the shuttle to destroy centcom
Instead of hijacking the shuttle or simply escaping a traitor may have to sabotage the escape shuttle in some way that turns it into a giant missile of death. This can be done by tampering with the thrusters with some tools or emagging the shuttle's control panel. If the traitor succeeds the shuttle slams into centcom, causing a massive explosion
Alternatively traitors with this objective could spawn with a small nuclear device they have to sneak onto the shuttle and activate it. If the shuttle reaches centcom with the nuke onboard then the traitor completes his objective and the bomb goes off, creating a massive explosion of sheer agony.

Re: Sabotaging Escape Shuttle
honk.
how to sabotage shuttle:
destroy 50% or more of thrusters after halfway (through lasers, explosives, fire axe, etc - they'd be destroyable)
emag control panel (but this early-launches it too... hmm)
maybe interacting with the shuttle computer with a captain-level ID (or emag) gives you the options
slow down, speed up, alter shuttle course
slow down makes you go slower (if you do it after halfway, boom you hit centcom)
speed up makes you go faster (ditto)
alter course means you can crash the shuttle into the volatile pile of nuclear explosives centcom has next to the shuttle bay
how would this work with other taters and greentext? does everyone on the shuttle automatically die? (pods pls)
