Have you played White Day: A Labyrinth Named School? Don't get the steam version, there's a free version on their website iirc. Free version uses simpler graphics too, so that should help. It's korean, but there's an english patch somewhere, and the game has really well done horror. Darkwood's really good but I imagine you've heard about it at this point. Pathologic 2 was one of my favorite games last year, but it's not a horror game in the sense it's trying to spook you around the clock. Aside from those there's rpgmaker horror games but those are a mixed bag if you are the sort to enjoy those in the first place, but I can recommend a few if you want to try out one.

that Abby, after being helped by Joel, BASHES HIM TO DEATH WHILE HIS FAMILY BEGS AND SCREAMS FOR HER TO STOP after learning that his NAME is the same as the one that killed her dad. She never even confirms that he's the same Joel. Sure she could have inferred it, but you'd think a COLD BLOODED, BRUTAL MURDER WITH WITNESSES WHO WILL WANT REVENGE would have a bit more research and forethought put into it than "ooga u name joel, me no likey." It's in the same tier as "WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME? WHY DID YOU SAY MARTHA" if you step back for a minute, only possibly even worse because unlike Batman and Superman who were already fighting initially, Abby up and murders Joel after he SAVES HER LIFE.

The Fireflies aren't the only people who they did terrible things to. I totally buy that she could get a positive ID on them based on what they'd told her given their ages and their proximity to Jackson. Tommy used to be a Firefly so it's likely Abby knew about him and his relationship to Joel. I agree with your first point about Joel being too open. You could argue that the majority of his characterization in the first game was that he was incredibly distrustful, and while he eventually came around to being comfortable around Ellie, the culmination of the first game is his trust being betrayed by the surgeon and him acting with extreme prejudice over it. I've seen people argue that his lack of trust is something that he could have grown out of between then and the second game, but it's still really weak storytelling to not actually show us that development when it was such a major and central point in the previous game.

Depending on size of your fleet go to Sindria and visit bars hoping for some half-free Lobsters to sell someplace/ take some Pirate station as soon as bounty pops up (they tend to be fairly easy, especially when they still have only one part done) /trade some mass commodities like fuel or food, they tend to be fairly cheap in some markets.

Honestly what bothers me the most in Starsector is that you can be King Bigwig with a giant fleet but you can't delegate shit to subordinates. Bothers me a bit.

Darkest Dungeon:
I am killing my fourth boss. My one level five hero would not go because it was too ez while the rest of my roster are level 4 or less. I don't think I've entered a dungeon over level 2 at this point. Been too afraid of losing more heroes and concentrating on levelling more cautiously than I did at first. One hero, Big Gay Al the Crusader (e.g. religious zealot) came back from the grave after his whole party wiped first excursion; He is level 4 now and kool + tuff

RE3make:
Trying to get S rank on hardcore and the no item box achievement but it's tough titty. Forget where I left off actually it was as Carlos at the police station from 2. I was struggling doing a no health item achievement run but dropped that (better done on handicapable difficulty) and now it's swiggins

KHIII:
Making myself finish she. I'm no longer 12 so the story is shit and they butchered the fun of the gameplay with the press Triangle to win while the game plays itself Disney Parks crosspromotions. I hope as the challenge increases I learn to love it because the combat in the first two was hard and addicting. I didn't pick the hardest difficulty for this and I don't think you can change it. As it is the combat feels tedious but not difficult or requiring skill. Just whack away with X until you can press Triangle to watch a cutscene then control a Disneyland ride and do that repeatdly until you wittle away the guy's several health bars.

God of War:
Being dad of war is not easy. The technology, writing and acting are impressive. Nice set pieces. The combat mechanics, father and son dress system and skill system are sort of overwhelming though. I'm new to the series and it feels tacked on from previous games. Like you would've learnt the mechanics in an additive way in the earlier ones which I'm not gonna bother with. Still, I will learn.

CTR NF:
I got 100% in CTR for the first time today! Had the original as a kid and never thought I could. To fully complete it though you need to get all platinum relics and I'm not sure what else (beat developer times?) which isn't easy. Not sure if I'll continue with it or not. I would like to buy Spyro from the Pit Stop but haven't gotten the chance yet.

Spider-Man:
Combat is really fun. Writing is good, seems well-researched too. You can be Man of Spiders and merely Man. You feel like Peter Parker with the way the game flows from mission to mission continuously over the course of days juggling plot threads through phone calls and voice mail and Peter's monologue. Makes it feel more like an unbroken experience and less like a movie showing snippets of each of the character's lives. That said you do play as multiple people.

Original RE2:
Big fan of rewind in RetroArch. Wouldn't have the patience without cheating. Game looks great rendering at 16x with the various settings turned up and then enabling supersampling so everything renders at the native resolution. It's pixelated in a way that fits the low res 2D backgrounds but with much better detail than the PS1's native output.

SS13:
I instead came here to complain about the replacement of the core R&D console in the R&D lab with the production only one. The real game is the metagame.

For Patho 2 depending on the districts you can ride out their edge where sometimes you're out of infected miasma. If you have a past save might be worth going back a day, rushing what you need to do and then spend a few hours frolicking in the fields for tinctures, which I ended up doing a fair bit.

I got Fall Guys but it had constant lagspikes so I refunded it. Didn't like how steep the odds were or the whole mobile game unlock treadmill with optional in-game currency purchases to skip it either especially when the unlocks are purely cosmetic and the game costs 25 Monopoly money to play. I'm glad someone's succeeding at it though. I'm fairly certain it'll become free to play after currency sales take off.

  I finally escaped Olonngo. I didn't realise you could get Menkhu's Finger there which makes things easier. Her monthly blood is what I win.
  The whole sequence and the revelations from talking to Oyun at the end of it was intense. I'd really like to get into 1 because it seems like there's more explained in it than in 2 with the characters' diaries and obviously the other two routes.
  
  Skater XL:
  It's a Unity game that's more like a tech demo at the moment but the skating mechanics are all there and it's pretty satisfying when you pull off a trick. It requires a controller and has a slightly steeper learning curve than Tony Hawk's because of the reliance on the sticks to control your feet and perform tricks. The soundtrack is great.

  Want to get all the trophies in anticipation of the release of Grounded Mode and permadeath and the two trophies for them. I've never Platinumed a game before.

You get so much free currency in Fall Guys that you'll never need to buy any. You do only get 3 crowns max per season by leveling the pass (which is entirely free to everyone), so if you suck, no cosmetics that cost crowns for you.

I'm on Day 11 of Pathologic 2 finally. It's still tough even though there are less plot threads to follow and the town feels empty. Was out of money and vouchers and there's no children left to trade with so I had to barter my gun for food. By now I've lost Khan, Notkin and Grace as wards. Managed to save Sticky, Murky, Capella and Taya. Didn't have enough in the way of miracles for the others. Notkin died very early despite me successfully treating him. I've also lost a ton of adults but not many I care about. Lara and Grief are still alive. Right now I'm at a point where I die to abrupt bullshit coming over the horizon.

I've been playing a lot of Oxygen Not Included recently. It's basically Rimworld/DF meets SS13 in a 2D cross-sectional perspective that makes laying pipes and wiring a huge pain in the ass (no colours, no layers). But it has mechanics that would be compliment SS13 well that I cannot think of examples of at the moment. The fluid mechanics are fun, I would like to see ours expanded in that vein

Updated The Last of Us 2 and started Grounded. They introduced a bunch of cheats you unlock with the same points used to unlock models and concept art, as well as different rendering modes in terms of visual and audio filters. Eagerly awaiting the Joel torture scene in 8-bit helium.

I got a 6TB external HDD so I'm using my slowass internet to download everything in my Steam library I could conceivably want to play for when the whim strikes. Never had the space to do that before.

Played Human Revolution Director's Cut. It has commentary and weapons I don't remember being in the first, like a silenced sniper rifle, sawn-off shotgun and remote explosives that come in plastic packs like MREs. I decided to go non-lethal partway through the first level and don't have the prod or the tranquiliser rifle so I'm stuck running, punching and eating snickers for lack of patience. It's amazing how bad the graphics look by today's standards. I remember being so impressed by it the first time I played it. The writing and gameplay still hold up, even if the voice acting doesn't. The guns still feel and sound great to fire, which is rare in games. GTA IV had great feeling and sounding guns, unlike GTA V for some reason. Can't think of any other examples.

I didn't say here but I finished Pathologic 2 finally last week. Started off getting the Late ending, then the Nocturnal ending, then finally the Diurnal ending (which was the one I wanted in the first place). God that took a fucking long time to do. I first got into Pathologic back in like 2013 long before I backed the Kickstarter for Pathologic 2 and before the proper translation of Pathologic 1 was released. Never completed Pathologic 1, despite multiple attempts. Always lost interest after getting stuck in a death loop. Then last year I first got Pathologic 2 on a computer where it'd run (not my shit secondhand ThinkPad) at the end of last year. Took 8 months on and off and about 90 hours of playtime to finish one playthrough. I started a new playthrough of Pathologic 1 as the Bachelor the other day and I'd really like to get through it and the Changeling's route at least but there's just so many games and barely anything holds my attention for long enough.

Really wanna get VtMB out of the way in anticipation for the VtMB 2 release next year. I never actually finished it. I've done multiple playthroughs since I first had the pleasure of discovering it in like 2009 (played Deus Ex for the first time around then too) but never got to the end.

The other day I decided to try to get through Undertale again in anticipation of Deltarune but I got stuck at Muffet and haven't tried since. I think I'll have to backtrack and get some health items but I fucking hate that. I read somewhere that people want to have sex with the spider which sounds about right.

Viscerafest is a fucking great retro FPS if you're into that genre. Hardly play vidya anymore, so spending the time to beat the demo twice says a lot of good about it. Playing a piece of shit cthulhu spess mercenary is a nice twist.

Also, the soundtrack rivals DOOM Eternal's imo; sounds like Mick Gordon did a score for Hotline Miami.
