Hardspace: Shipbreaker
Super cool singleplayer game about chopping up ships for money. Bounce around in Zero-G and use that Dead Space plasma cutter for its actual intended purpose.
If you like engineering space ships and subsystems this js the opposite of that.

It's made by some of the Homeworld dudes. Very similar aesthetics. Confirmed to be a completely different setting tho.Iatots wrote:Early access fruitninja. Hopefully it becomes something.

Re: Hardspace: Shipbreaker
got this today, very relaxing. it's like viscera cleanup detail but instead of cleaning up guts and body parts you're slicing up aluminum plating and trying not to accidentally depressurize the ship you're salvaging and blow yourself up

The music is 10/10 space folk blues
I love the little touch that getting damaged causes your radio to swap stations to some random bullshit, and after a little while you smack yourself in the side of the head to bring back the good tunes.

I've spent two nights up till like 5 playing this fucking game. Honestly I was gonna make a thread if there wasn't already.
The best version of the soundtrack is the parts when it mixes in the synth.
The aesthetic of Blackbird's shit is fantastic. Also hit ALL of the atmo regulators you mongoloids. Don't just start cutting.

Re: Hardspace: Shipbreaker
more thoughts after having played it a bit more:
still lots of fun but i feel ship types are a little lacking at the moment (game's in early access obviously so more are being added). i also have a pretty decent computer but the game dips in frames quite a bit when inside ships which is something you have to do a lot, it's not unplayable but dipping from 70ish fps down to 40 in under a second is jarring. also its seems like hardspace is one of those games where changing the graphics settings makes the game look better/uglier but doesnt change your fps at all.
also this is more of a personal thing but i fucking despise in-game timers. and it just so happens that the career mode has a 15 minute timer per "shift" and while you can still return to work on ships after the timer's up the next day it's still annoying for me.
overall lacking a bit in content but considering its in early access and theyre planning on having a 40+ hour campaign and new ship types/sizes and what's already here is really fun. it's almost like a puzzle game in a sense as you have to find the most efficient way to break down a ship for it's valuables without accidentally cutting into a fuel line and blowing yourself up.

Re: Hardspace: Shipbreaker
Normally I would agree but I think the tine limit serves a purpose here. The game is about efficiency and finding the best economy of movement. Using your tools to cut convenient access holes through sections of the hull would matter a lot less if you weren't on the clock, just for one example.
It's not just about taking ships apart without blowing yourself up, it's about doing it as quickly as possible, attacking them, solving the most efficient step-by-step for the layout.
There is a sandbox mode too if it really bugs you but remember that like...if the time limit bugs you it's only incrementing a dollar amount that doesnt really do anything. Your amount of debt has no bearing on anything that I've seen yet. Accumulating money is a requirement for certifications but I havent seen the game give one fuck yet over how much debt I've knocked off or when I come in over costed and nudge it back up a little bit.
