Ok so one of the scientists in the lab had a sensory dulling bionic amd there was an autodoc in there so i am now a BIONIC GOD from dissecting scientists and bionic commados with a scalpel. But then i got the autonomous surgical scalpel bionic so i dropped it. Also expanded sigestive system rules i literally dont have to worry about the poop/pee system anymore cuz i dont produce waste anymore just nutrition

How often does it happen? How long does it take? Is it dependent on how much you eat/drink or is it static? Do you need a special area to do it or can you just pick a corner? If the latter does a smell build up over time that causes a debuff?

Its rate of buildup unless you have the bionic is based on the amount of food and water In your stomach. It creates a "human waste" item that can attract giant bugs after a while so its best to burn it. You can eat it but it makes you sick and debuffs. Also if you have the flu or intestinal parasites it just covers the tile in diarrhea like boomer bile but browner.

Tried recently
I got the basics down but I feel anything more complex is a nightmare:
I still get 66% false positives when I diagnose a car as drivable, even if it has keys. Not to mention how many tools you need to fix cars. As far as I’m concerned if the engine doesn’t start but it has gas and power the car is permadead. Can’t imagine how much supplies you need to build your own.
I want to try bionics but on the few occasions I find a doc its always super risky to install even with skills. Failed cyborg is fun (ethanol burner and a few bad mods,no good mods) since I start with a doc, maybe someday I’ll make it work.
I still haven’t figured out how to get mutagen or the recipe. I know about labs but those are basically not an option, there has to be someway!
Roguelikes make me see why unlocks are often a bad idea. Instead of choosing the evac start I always try the genetic experiment and freeze to death in the forest since I am too excited to try mutations, (one of my failures was going to a toxic waste dump and eating the worst thing ever to get mutations, you know what I mean.) I often use the “showered in a burning building” one for points (actually a success fairly often in that once I survived several days) and failed borg.
Now I’ll try the winter shelter start. Get so many skills there, maybe I’ll learn something- not about survival though since all is fucking frozen

you can fix cars but generally its better to just loot them once you get set up. basically look around till you find a driveable car, and use that for a bit but don't get to attached to it. If you ever find an RV mark it on your map because those are amazing and worth coming back later to fix up or loot. Don't worry right away about cars. what you want to focus on first is clearing out a house somewhere secure as a base or building your own somewhere or living in the broken rv if it has power. I would recommend if to find a house with a basement, clear it out make it safe and its a great base because you can do whatever down there and you don't really attract any monsters if you smash shit or something.confused rock wrote:Tried recently

after you have a safe base what you want to do is start collecting books and tools and bringing them back to base, it seems like you need a lot of shit, but if you eventually bring it all back to your base it adds up quick. once all thats set up read some books for a few days and then you can either add onto the temp car you got or make your own vehicle, doesn't even have to be a fancy one, could just be a 2 wheeler with a bunch of cargo pods and solar panels. then you can use that to loot more shit, etc etc.
If you really want to get into mutations keep doing the genetic experiment, but when you generate the world just increase the city spawn rate a bit, then you'll have an easier time getting outta the woods with your furry powers.

First, for smashing a car would I need a sledgehammer? Never found ome, and jackhammers are rare. I’ve seen “homewrecker” in my craft menu. Does that work?
Hardest part of finding a spot to live is figuring out how to see what you read. At least lmoe shelters have wood stoves. I think some basements now have a heater in them that works. The evac shelter has a computer in it, but I damn myself by rarely playing these shelters, and I heard the light is too dim so reading is a challenge.
Furry powers are nice and kick tons of ass, but it feels like getting more (or as non experiment) mutagen is nigh impossible. I also suspect experiment mutations aren’t true mutations (for example, tough skin is a lizard mutation but picking it as a trait won’t make you more lizardy. I suspect this applies to all traits picked)
Either way, cars are somewhere in the pits of my brain because there’s so much stuff to try. Last time I played I picked sheltered winter boy and right after leaving the house I found a dead cow freezing in the snow and thought “whelp, guess I’m using every part of a buffalo” before levelling my survival and cooking to 3 And digging up salt roots over the course of a few days just to make jerky and tan leather. After barely fucking succeeding I decided to go on an excursion while the leather dried with my trusty shovel, hoping to find books, maybe about mutagen, or maybe even some cybernetics. Took me 3 days to find the nearest town, almost died once when at night a turret shot me. I only survived cuz I found a fridge full of alcohol in a car and that was my new food source. I should’ve taken the turret as a warning though as that night in town I found myself in a garage before flicking my headlamp on and realising there were also 12 zombies in there, and that was it.
I feel there’s too many skills to train, where do I even start? Probably not mechanics as I don’t know how to train it, and I’ve never found more than a couple computers for that skill. Electronics... interesting, but it needs all sorts of complex parts and I can’t find em, plus There are so many devices I can’t imagine what’s worth making.
Maybe next time I ought to start in a cabin, learn to smith, maybe make my own forge and then car?

You are over thinking it, a rock would be fine (even a rock can break), or even no tools at all as hordes will just clip and get caught on it, smashing their way through it to get to a source of a noise (usually one zombie smashing the car on collision by accident leads to a spontaneous smash-fest)
Makeshift Pipe (smash lockers, these have pipes in for some reason use a rock to hammer it into place) -> (makeshift)-Hammer (scrap, a long stick, something to bind it with like dead grass) = screwdriver is really easy practice and setup for doing * construction actions to make your place where you're bunking easier. With levels, the nailboard trap is availible early to you in miscellaneous category, as entry points should have furniture dragged to it, like the windows and doors, with some spare solid furniture nearby incase you need to actually block it off.
Just read during the day and keep food and a source of heat from a oven nearby which will never spill over into a huge flame, inside when you've stopped being wet you will stabilise slowly, if not sleeping it off is the easiest way to get around it under a sheet or your emergency blanket from a shelter. Its really not that important to read all your books in extended binge and ignore everything else.
Weapon skill (only taught by books and doing it yourself), fab, survival (from looking through grass & making survival recipies), cooking (also known as chemistry) and tailoring are most definitely the important ones on a fresh game. Mechanics and electronics are more when you have a grasp of how to be self sufficient and start pursuing more advanced things like forging your own metal and making your own custom vehicles with electronics.
To make things better/worse, most recipies can only be learnt from books, though most of these are laid out on the onset and aren't nessecarily all skill-book related though there are a lot usually hidden inside certain book editions, so you should definitely skim through each book you find to see if theres anything interesting in it.

Many you will train passively, and others you can game quite easily. Tailoring is a important one for procuring, protecting and maintaining your clothes, fabrication equates to general construction and will easily level up by making repeatable recipies, usually out of metal or wood. To make things better/worse, most recipies can only be learnt from books, though most of these are laid out on the onset and aren't nessecarily all skill-book related though there are a lot usually hidden inside certain book editions, so you should definitely skim through each book you find to see if theres anything interesting in it.

Jesus christ the base game got a lot harder than I remember.
That being said, as much as I love this game, I am finding that most of my deaths that dont occur in the first week are because I didnt react fast enough to a mil spec turret popping up on my hud.

They keep tacking bullshit on to the game to try to make it more difficult but the plentiful crafting options make it easier than ever.
1) Start game
2) Go outside, get ye rock
3) Smash some lockers and benches apart, craft like crazy. Makeshift crowbar and a weapon with reach attacks at least.
4) That's it go forth and wreck.
Also dont smash your evac shelter windows just (e)xamine them to tear the precious curtain down.

They decided turrets arent realistic enough so buffed them to use 5.56 ammo
So now if you destroy one you get 1200 rounds of 5.56 off a single enemy

Yeah the recent update to make turrets not give off light is bullshit of the highest order. Makes wandering labs a complete toss up between spamming your control laptop every new room or just opening a random door into a .50BMG turret you had no way of knowing would be there.

Yeah I had the same thing happen.
You can steal back all the stuff inside. To get the vehicle back as yours just loiter inside of it for a bit.
