Cobby Category 1 Method of treating toxin damage

Post by SkeletalElite » #506395

So there is currently no category 1 way to treat toxin damage. I had an idea of making this done through a new machine in medbay which allow you to perform dialysis. Basically the process would be able to remove chems from the person's body and also heal toxins. However the process causes them to lose blood too. As you get upgrades it would gain some cool stuff.

scanning module: Makes Chem Purging Better
T1- always removes all types of chems
T2- Can turn chem purging off or on
T3- Only purge's harmful chems
T4- Manual Chem Selection for Purging

Manipulator: Upgrades reduce blood loss

Capacitor: Improves the Max Speed of the machine. Higher speed = more chems purged and toxin healed, but also more blood lost. Speed would be adjustable in the interface.

The machine wouldn't be strap in and forget and would not be self serviceable. Someone has to operate it.
The interface of the machine itself for the doctor would allow the doctor to see the blood levels and a chemical scan of the patient inside it in addition to the other buttons they have. (Turning it on, messing with the chem purging when you have upgrades, ect.)
I was thinking maybe it would be a good idea for the machine require the doctor actively doing something in the UI in order to make the healing/purging happen?
For example maybe make the blood loss fatal and the machine has its supply of blood/saline in it and in order for the patient to survive the process, the doctor has to use the blood/saline reserve to fill the patient's blood when it's low.

The blood/saline reserve I'm thinking would refill on it's own as it's mainly there as a mechanic to make the healing process active.

Edit: After a little thinking about the refill mechanic and a bit of googling dialysis I found that blood is diffused with a saline solution called dialysate inside the machine. That is what the fluid reserve in the machine can be and it is the goal of the operating doctor to keep an appropriate concentration of dialysate. The concentration would change somewhat randomly and it's the doctors goal to keep the amount at an ideal level, by either reducing dialysate release rate or increasing it.
