people only start playing ss13 if they Want to play it. you really can't get others into it easily. i was first shown the game in september 2016 and learning how to use my hands was a mess, my friend barely explained anything about it and just made me read the wiki which can be really offputting if you're not very interested in the game.

Yeah, because people aren't willing to repeat awful mistakes just so people who didn't experience it can see why.
There's also a difference between dumping the server on the hub for for the general hub populace to shit on, and people interested in servers seeking them out on their own. It's not like tgstation is particularly difficult to find or anything.

I literally found byond by accidentally typing buzz lightyears catchphrase. 10/10 very hard to find and nearly dead gaming platform. It's the 2d version of roblox guys. It's the 3d version that's liked better though.

There are literally THOUSANDS of different people that play on /tg/ in any given month. It doesn't seem like it because you only see maybe 100-150 of them at a time, but there are far more players then you (and until recently, I) realize.

I can tell you I learned about SS13 accidentally while scrolling /vg/ to find /wowg/ and I noticed some shitty thumbnail picture of something that looked like Tibia of all things. I asked what the fuck is this, I was called faggot but also given some explanations, and that's how I ended up on Velyks' server.

I think this game is still fairly muh secret club. But it's not a bad thing, it makes me feel superior.
