my senior prom was today
i did not attend, i spent the day attempting to code things
i have a serious problem

When I was in school, I didn't do anything for my first prom because nobody asked me, and my second time around I spent the night with friends eating ice cream and watching bad movies.
I've been to a dance once, it was a homecoming, and it was alright.

I went to my first prom "With friends"

We all went as a group, although it was clear that some of them were going with each other and just said "Yeah, were going with the group..." just to make people feel better.

All in all it was a fun night though.

I actually went to my prom, which consisted of a bunch of 16-18 year olds smoking cigars and various brands of tobacco in cigarettes, some dancing to some obnoxiously loud music that made the floor wobble under my feet every time the bass dropped, and a bunch of people already drunk from the car rides over. Oh and there was some food involved too I guess, but it wasn't properly cooked. Dancing was fun and the girls were alright I suppose.

All in all, not really missing much, but it was still a lot of fun.

My prom was okay. I was friends with this girl, we were in the maintain-the-library "class" together. I didn't care to date (didn't understand why at the time) and she was dating some adult, so we went together to satisfy our parents. It was boring but there were actually some nice points.

I went to one dance. Tons of children having stupid nonsense drama. I never went to a dance again, including prom. Hell, it was damn expensive, and I wasn't going to waste like $70 on something I wasn't going to enjoy anyways. I'm not much for traditions, nor dressing up for things. And I don't find dancing fun. If you feel you are missing out on something, oh well (you DID feel you had to make this thread...). But if you have fun coding, props to you. I was a Comp Sci major, so I can understand that.

You enjoy that? I find men's formal wear absolutely horrible. I think it looks silly, especially considering how little variation is tolerated. Different tie color? Slightly different shade fabric? And I think it's very strange, impractical, and based on old traditions that need to be left behind.

As I said, I don't enjoy dancing. I never have. Every time I have been forced to dance I had a horrible time, especially the partner dances.

I hate the taste of alcohol, and I've seen what it does to people. It killed members of my family directly, caused my college colleages to act like jerks, and I've known people hurt by drunk drivers. There are some positive effects of moderate consumption, but getting drunk is absolutely out of the question for me.
And as you said, the limo was expensive, the clothing is expensive, and the tickets to my prom were expensive. There are many other things which I would rather spend my money on that would actually be more fun for me.
