Maybe they could last for x rounds + the number of upvotes they have, so shitty ones would expire rapidly and good ones would stay longer (but not forever)

As for the combat/accidental clicking issue, make it such that the interface only appears on examination, and clicking it directly shows the written message. If you are bothered by the number of messages on a map, use the solution provided in-game: Pester the janitor for his soapstone.

How about making them be forced to be atleast a paragraph long, and make them look like a regular tile just engraved DF-style, like a square "spiral" thingy that gives the message when you altclick it.

EDIT: Unless a toggle is added so that they can be hidden from view on a per-player basis, in which case i dont give a shit I just dont want to have to see signs plastered all over the floor everywhere

I like engravings but misclicking on them being basically a stun until you close/click off the window is pretty unfortunate so I'm glad that's fixed. However, now it's impossible to read the engraving at all without opening the window where previously one could examine them to read them offhand. Here's a possibility: get rid of the window entirely and move the up/downvote buttons and the admin info to the chat window similar to sechuds.
