So I didn't really like mobas until my friend, big dota player, he's pretty much only playing that and starcraft, started playing with me. It's actually a lot of fun with a buddy(s) on skype.
Except that if you play on Europe West, you get teams of russians bitching at each other constantly. I mean, we're both russians and we hate to see russians on Europe West. Why don't those fuckers play on Russia.

My only problems with Dota 2 are the abundance of horseshit duration silences and stuns and how fucking impossible it is to come back from a deficit. I end far too many games 3-4 levels down. Fucking everyone snowballs. Remove Slark plz.

also listen Vekter if you're having problems with getting CC'd all the time it's probably because you got initiated. This game is pretty much a game of who can initiate the best and in turn if the enemy team can disengange and re-engage you'll win the fight. Especially in higher MMR you'll reach a point where one person will not and can not carry his team by himself, it'll be a full team effort.
Oh and a BKB helps a lot to not get CC'd to death/boredom.

It is because they realize they are losing players to LoL pretty fast, and more importantly they are realizing their not even beating LoL's competitive scene in places like Korea. LoL, despite being simpler, has a stronger focus on keeping the game competitive through the entire game where as in DOTA the first team to get a 1k gold lead bonus almost always wins. Sort of like how football is designed to have lots of scoring without people assuming the game is over 5 minutes in where as baseball drags on for an eternity with the outcome pretty much known ahead of time. Doesn't matter how good the rules are and how tight the design is if no one cares as soon as one team gets a 2 kill or 20 creep lead.
Also they are trying to emulate LoL style updates: Frequent, moderately large, and focused on gameplay tweaks. Those prevent a stagnant high end meta (Which is "exciting" for observers) and keeps casuals engaged with the game. Do not be surprised if new heroes start coming out on a monthly basis now too.
And the riki change is pretty easy to understand: Riki is super interesting to inexperienced players but not really that exciting to play at the high end because he basically ends up being a tanky damage character who just blinks one and shreks you. And worse off for onlookers he isn't doing what they want RIki to be for early game. So they made a fancy flashy chain blink for him and move his invisibility into something he can have all the time.
PL is similar, he is super strong but just looks like a blob of dude hitting you with sticks because micromanaging those things is generally only helpful jungling, and they want him to focus more on intense micromanagement so commentators can have something to talk about, hence the speed boost ability allowing you to have them harass individuals much more efficiently and the weird asymetric clone ability forcing you to use the clones as seperate command groups.
Also they are trying to emulate LoL style updates: Frequent, moderately large, and focused on gameplay tweaks. Those prevent a stagnant high end meta (Which is "exciting" for observers) and keeps casuals engaged with the game. Do not be surprised if new heroes start coming out on a monthly basis now too.
And the riki change is pretty easy to understand: Riki is super interesting to inexperienced players but not really that exciting to play at the high end because he basically ends up being a tanky damage character who just blinks one and shreks you. And worse off for onlookers he isn't doing what they want RIki to be for early game. So they made a fancy flashy chain blink for him and move his invisibility into something he can have all the time.

everything you said is drastic overspeculation and i dont really think it has anything to do with LoL
icefrog cares about a balanced game, not player counts. VALVE cares about player counts. valve does not do the majority of the balancing.
the comeback mechanic is horribly broken at the moment, but its probably going to be tweaked heavily until its more balanced. the idea is what matters, not the individual numbers.
also, a lot of the changes in the patch were directed toward pros and high level players, not casuals. dota is probably not going to become a more "casual" game - more standardized probably (such as the changes to damage types) but not explicitly casual. the post-international patches always use the international itself to see what meta is bad and what heroes/items are too strong or too weak, because those are things pros would study and know best.
also they've had 2 updates in a month time span, one of which was just a new hero and the other a massive update, one of the most massive in recent times. that isnt really enough of an indication that they'll do "frequent, large updates." plus, they even said in the most recent blog post they dont intend to do diretide this year, in favor of a few updates this year and a huge one early next year. new heroes on a monthly basis is entire bullshit as well, since the past schedule for hero releases has been seriously erratic. there's only 4 heroes left over from dota 1 that aren't in yet. i'm excited to see what they'll do when it comes to making totally NEW heroes, but given valve's work patterns and how icefrog balances things, one hero a month would be a ridiculous assumption. do you really think they could come up with a new, unique hero every month, create all the assets for it, and balance it within one month, every month? even if they worked on multiple heroes at a time, it wouldn't work.

Basically right now in the DOTA meta a match is over as soon as a good team gets a small lead, and a lot of these changes are anti-lead changes, which run counter to a lot of Icefrog's previous changes, which existed to enhance the power of the lead and make it harder to come back. I strongly suspect he was outright forced to do this by Valve, because it doesn't really make sense in comparison to his other choices, which focus less on making for exciting competitive play and counterplay and are generally more focused on generic balance while maintaining DOTA's traditional "Sucks to suck, and 1 less creep kill means you suck" structure. DOTA isn't accomplishing what Valve wanted from it, that isn't a controversial statement to make I hope and it shouldn't surprise anyone.
