Re: Vomit Induced Heart Attacks (Darkest Dungeon)
Yes, some of the DLC stuff is real obnoxious. Particularly the high infect chance combined with the fact that on high infestation level somewhere around 60% of all normal dungeon fights are replaced with the same four bloodsucker shitters who will almost certainly infect at least one hero. Beat the baron to stave off the curse for a little while.

Try waiting until your heroes begin to crave blood, and farm up blood. The curse is easier to handle than one thinks. It is also easy to cure everyone just by doing a boss rush, and you eventually get the ability to cure people at will.

Re: Vomit Induced Heart Attacks (Darkest Dungeon)
Just started getting back into it. I love it but I really don't get some of the design choices, especially with some of the trinkets and skills.
The Antiquarian's healing ability for insttance. Rank 1: 1-1 hp healed. Max rank: 3-3 health healed. It's basically useless. Even more so since it's the exact same as the plague doctor's healing ability except the plague doctor's ability actually cures bleeding and blight. So what's the point of it?
Also there's some of the trinkets. The Vengeful greaves for example: +1% crit? What's a 1% increase going to do?

Re: Vomit Induced Heart Attacks (Darkest Dungeon)
Antiquarian's not really meant to be much more than a vector through which you make big fucking bags of dollars. They're more of a buffer-debuffer than a healer, the heal is more of a back-up. They have a trinket that gives the heal 50% more heal, which is pretty ok early on. Antiquarian and PD have pretty different roles overall so comparing the two is a bit moot.
Not all abilities are knocked right out of the park. Check out their dodge buff, it's full party and fuckin huge. That shit slaps.
Not all trinkets are meant to be super good either I guess. 1% is only a little under baseline as far as crit-chance increase goes, though. Crit just isn't balanced to get that high overall

Re: Vomit Induced Heart Attacks (Darkest Dungeon)
She can be a good dodge buffer for serious runs as well in a combo with man at arms, but yeah she is mostly for getting trinketd via campfire and increasing loot when she opens objects most of the time. But dont underestimate her, antiquarians are surprisingly good when comboed and early game she aint a slouch with the knife as a very flexible attacker to mop up stressful enemies.
Many trinkets are not that great and exist to let you get more money by applying strange stats temporarily to your team.
A 1 percent crit rate increase is significant, its statistically a some odd 2.5% damage increase but more importantly in well set up teams stress is more dangerous than damage and crits are one of the few ways to heal stres, and on a 4 man aoe attack a 1% crit rate buff is a 4% chance to heal stress. That said it is a weak, common trinket and aoe has problems in team composition, but 1% is surprisingly impactful.

I justify skills that only heal 1-5HP in that it's meant to get you off Death's Door and stabilized

Yeah that's basically what I mean by back-up heal

Lepper is better for pure damage, bu lt crusader has better utility, especially if your team is highly positional due to the radical awesomeness of Holy Lance.

Yeah Leper also has a bit lower accuracy which can be obnoxious in higher level dungeons. I prefer Highwaymen and Hellions in my front slots, myself. But I also find stacking Dodge to be more effective than stacking HP/Prot, due to the commonality of bleed/blight effects- Dodge can potentially negate these, whereas HP and Prot cannot.
In game, I play the A.I Firmware, the French cyborg C.U.R.I.E, Aubrie Allen, and the lizard scum Skulks-Through-Maintenance.

Re: Vomit Induced Heart Attacks (Darkest Dungeon)
I've decided the DLC is garbage.
It adds a bunch of cool shit and the flagellant is awesome, but I can't stand it anymore. Encountering crimson court enemies in every single dungeon more than the actual resident enemies is annoying and over half the time it's run ruining.
I can't stand it anymore.
and as if that wasn't infuriating enough, they fucked with the format for the animations of highwayman/vestal/crusader, and now custom skins are broken for them.
Fuck you, Red Hook.
fuck you.

Re: Vomit Induced Heart Attacks (Darkest Dungeon)
I'm gonna pick up Crimson Court after a few patches. Dunno if you guys played during the Old Times, but Red Hook is generally pretty good at adapting. Corpses are probably the best example, but they've demonstrated an uncanny ability to put into practice a useful concept: "When your players tell you what needs to be fixed, they're almost certainly right. When they tell you how to fix it, they're almost certainly wrong."

Re: Vomit Induced Heart Attacks (Darkest Dungeon)
That axiom doesn't really make sense, though. Most particularly, because the supposedly "wrong" solutions never get implemented, it's an impossible claim to verify. It only seems like it's true. Professional game designers usually manage to accomplish their design goals -"fix this thing", in this case. However, the player-suggested fixes, in most cases, aren't tested, so you can't draw conclusions about whether or not they would work. And, since their are an infinite (or quasi infinite) number of possible fixes to any given issue, the fixes implemented by a developer are unlikely to overlap with "the players telling you how to fix it".Drynwyn wrote:I'm gonna pick up Crimson Court after a few patches. Deeper analysis- most notably, the existence of massive player-made game re-balances like XCOM Long War, Skyrim: Requiem, or Oblivion: Combat Evolved- suggests that players, as a group, often are right about how to fix things- at least, taken in the abstract as a large group.

Re: Vomit Induced Heart Attacks (Darkest Dungeon)
There are a lot of other re-balances for games out there aside from those, and a lot of them suck because many people just don't understand balance or how to fix a problem.
Not surprisingly, they're mostly left unplayed and ignored after word gets out that they suck.
A lot of mods are like that, and then they never expand to the full overhaul stage. But as a general rule, if people love it chances are it's doing something right
