My best gaming pal captain sawrge said he will pay 50 dollars to whoever is able to make a map of the station to my liking, so PM me if you're interested I guess.
I outlined generally what I wanted in this thread, including the bridge/gatehouse and layout of the base within the walls/against ocean/surrounded by chasm and lava
Here is more specifically where I think departments would go well
As to questions I've gotten about size, just a normal station map size (though keep in mind it will be spread across two levels, and you'll be able to drop into things from above by bombing the floor out). I'll paste it in to the planet later.
Are you still going for something similar to the idea in the station thread?
Also, yeah, map size is pretty important here.

The best way to get a girl/boy friend is to click on them say "hi" then push enter
then say "your cute" then push enter, wait until they say somthing back if they
don't go for another.

Also, is mapping for planetstation different than mapping for normal ss13?
It is different in that you will be making the station across two z levels so you need to be able to keep an extra dimension in mind when planning spaces.
So for clarification, the top level is ground level, bottom is subterranean?
is the atmosphere supposed to be safe to breath? Because I'm thinking about less a fully linked station and more a cluster of separate spessman yurts. (under level may or may not be unified, haven't figured that out yet.)
Is the atmos safe to breath? Is it hot/cold? Is it the same in lavaland and surface?
I was making a draft where the surface base was the big wall with multiple self contained buildings plonked down inside as though NT had air dropped demountables or something to rapidly setup the base.
I'm not gonna stiff whoever creates the map out of 50 bucks no.
But I am worried that the people making maps that don't end up chosen will feel cheated though, since several people are now working on their own versions
I would not doubt Kor nor Sawrge's willingness to hold up their end of the bargain but yeah there is something prohibitive about this entire arrangement
mapping is already the most arduous hassle you can attempt related to space station 13 (barring improving it)

I don't even play ss13 anymore, pretty much due to dannos stupid bullshit
Set restrictions on how big each department is, so security has to fit a 50x50 square block or something. Have pre-set area's where piping/wires have to enter.
Then what happens is you have a pool of departments the map chooses from at round start and it picks one at random. So every round your Planet Base is going to have a utterly different look and layout. The actual positions of each department will remain the same, but their layout is difference.
That would actually work with what I'm currently working on. Each department is a set of linked 'demountable' style buildings (fluff being NT just air dropped in some space IKEA modular shit to save time), so are physically independent from each other.
The main advantage of that system, as is the same for randomised jungle chunk tiles, is that you can accept the mapping work of a lot of mappers without disgruntling mappers when you have to pick one map over everyone elses.
I would also suggest making it very easy for players to figure out the name of each department style/version so feedback would be easier to give back on that layout.
Honestly considering there's no need for an atmos system and there's more natural lighting you can rely on, about 70% of the actual hard work put into a map is not required.
Mapping on this codevase is essentially sticking together randomly sized squares to all fit into one vaguely box-y station, the only thing you need in your peabrain is the knowledge that medbay and science should actually fucking be next to each other.

I was just talking about the med/sci thing. I didn't mean to be rude.
