Oh i know about factions, i have completed the Refugee Center questlines a few times now. But last time i played the only raider/slaver bases you could find were little wooden palisade fortresses in the wilderness with like 10ish people and few guns. These fuckers are way better equipped and organized, and there is a lot more of them

Welp. Went back in the daytime. This time i did actually get killed. Turns out experimental Z levels fucked me. I got shot to death my turrets/bots in the basement below the base with no way for them to see me or me them. Also i discovered the reason i can not loot guns from the raiders is that they are all equipped with "none". Apparently "none" can still shoot bullets/work like a baseball bat when they wield them. I am starting to see Anon3's point about experimental builds. I just savescummed to avoid death bug

It's a mod you can install when you create a world. It enables joke monsters like the Thriller zombie, Shia, a few joke items like Granades which do crazy insane shit (named after game dev) and a bunch of other things. I have it off now though.

Lots of new content and a ton of new locations if you activate the appropriate mods. Have not yet tried the NPC questlines but i think they might have been extended somewhat as well

Melee seems to have overall recieved a bit of a nerf, as well as requiring stamina now. It is certainly more difficult to make a horrendously overpowered character on chargen, but still possible

Yeah i think weapon ranges have been improved a bit, but they are still abysmally short. I literally have trouble hitting a zombie across the street on the police sniper start. What the fuck

I'm a huge fan of Scorpion Style barehanded. It's raw damage is a hair lower than high end melee weapons, but you don't have to carry weapons and every crit is a multi-turn stun. Starting with it and the Razor Girl profession uses up all your points*, but it's worth it. Really I'm a big fan of the Razor Girl/Boy profession as a whole. First, the name is awesome, as are the implications of your gear. More importantly, you start out with SUPERB damage resistance, thanks to leather gear and subdermal armor, and a bunch of passive bionics that make life WAY easier. Drop a point in Dodge, a point in Unarmed, and a point or two in Dex and you start the game more than capable of beating several enemies to death barehanded.

*Though you can have a few extra if you max out on negative traits

Scorp style has always been op as fuck forever. Trying a wilderness outdoorsman start with a mod called PK's rebalancing. Makes the world gen way more unforgiving. I have died 4 times, 3 of those were due to me spawning three map tiles from an anthill or triffid grove.

Krav is good, as well as very versatile as it works with a few melee weapons. High level scorpion lets you easily kill hulks in h2h

Ninjitsu struggles from it's supposed advantage (silent melee) being not that important, since a) them hitting you will still make noise and b) hand to hand attacks don't make that much noise to begin with.

One thing I fucking hate is that they changed how cars work. They now need a set level of battery power to start, and since they changed that I have not seen a single car with enough battery to turn on. This means that you basically can not have a basic car until you get mechanics high enough to attach solar panels, since you can not manually refill them with batteries anymore

Build a generator station at your base with a removable storage battery, pedals, and an alternator (may be optional).

Sit down in the pedals and accelerate to maximum, you'll generate some juice in the battery, then can remove it and take it with you for a swap. Alternatively build a shopping cart with a battery storage in it and use jumper cables to start cars with it. Bonus points you can fill the cart with extra tires, fuel cans, etc.

While those are all viable solutions, by the time you are able to do all that it is probably easier to just bolt a single solar panel on and wait a few hours. Not really a huge obstacle, but it used to be nice to find the rare functional car super early game to make things a bit easier at the risk of making a bit more noise

I mean not really, basically everything is contained within the game other than some of the crazier mods, which you probably will not want to mess with at first anyways. If you want the stable version with less features go Cooper, otherwise get the latest experimental. Be sure to download the tiles version of the game even if you want to play with the ASCII graphics, it has sound compatibility where the console does not.

Experimental is relatively stable, put in a LOT of hours lately and have only had one crash. You can also configure the autosave feature so you do not lose much progress

NPCs are still trash. Most recently lost my guy with a nodachi and heavy survivor gear because an asshole NPC started stealing my shit (making a beeline for it) and then when I started killing him, he threw a molotov in my face point blank, killing himself and setting me on fire. I didn't know how to put it out, so I burned to death.

Apparently you have to stand stock still (hold 5 or . to pass a turn) and you'll pat yourself out. That, or apparently always hold a fire extinguisher with you.

Either way, NPCs are STILL retarded and hyper aggressive and awful. Keep the dynamic ones off at all costs. They're not worth being able to train a skill in 30 minutes.

I have had this happen to me long ago. I usually play with them enabled but turn the instance down so that they appear very rarely. It can be fun to collect allies in a fortified location late game. I once reclaimed a small town and put groups of survivors in houses all around. Then a horde wandered by and an epic battle ensued, it was pretty great

Oh i forgot about the launcher. Does it facilitate installing soundpacks? I know you helped me with it once a long time ago but after that they changed how the game handles soundpacks. I tried following a guide to install it on the latest experimental but i could not get it to work

yes I added a screenshot in my above post, there is a soundpack tab and sizable mods tab, also it auto updates the launcher and probably auto updates the game if you set it up like that, but I don't.

Over the past four days I've started to slowly work on my car and fortify my home. All of my expeditions have ended in complete success with no resistance. I'm starting to worry that the game is saving up something awful for me. A mi-go was outside my house and screamed like a child. I stayed in my house for a bit, I came outside and it was gone.

I was cracking bank vaults (quite easy and potentially very rewarding) and was lucky enough to find a suit of RM13 power armor.

It functions much like power armor, but way lighter, with some bonus environmental protections, and you can wear it over other clothes.

The major downside is that while power armor can run on mundane power sources, this stuff can ONLY be powered by plutonium cells. It's great for doing known high-risk things though, and for riding around on a motorcylce with the armor powered off (since the encumbrance isn't an issue when driving.)
