Inter-station Deliveries
While the concept of server character transfers has come up in the past, there were always concerns of things like "wizard transfers to basil to murderbone everyone." So this is sort of a refinement of that concept as well as an expansion of cargo's design space in the game. I've discussed this concept in irc before but Kor's post here https://tgstation13.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6887 has a somewhat similar concept and reminded me of it and that I should probably commit it to word somewhere.
Basically, in place of a normal Centcom order, you can instead place an order to your friendly neighborhood Basil/Sybil. The other station/servers's cargo bay gets a supply request, and cargo bay loads up the equipment and transfers the items to the cargo bay on the other station/server. Purchasing stations would probably have a steep discount from a normal Centcom order since the company doesn't have to pay for anything themselves, and the shipping station can get a nice bonus.
Ideas for exports would be R&D weapons and mechs, of course. Transferring research data discs would make sense thematically and could get... interesting. Engineering could store excess power into backup storage for shipping to stations that are having power issues.
Chef and hydroponics shipments could lessen our need for things like vending machines, which are required in case those jobs aren't filled. But if you order it from another station, at least then a chef SOMEWHERE is feeling fulfilled in his job. Bonus points if it was a traitor chef all along and he poisoned the whole shipment!
Basically, it help solves our "endgame" problem of "ok i built 50 mechs and did all the researches now what do i do" without necessitating things endgame bosses as if we're some kind of WoW Raid.

Re: Inter-station Deliveries
yeah instead of having set requests you could just type in what you want manually and have the price be set by the station that ships out the product.

Re: Inter-station Deliveries
Transferring anything in RnD to another station would be ridiculous
Though I admit it would be funny for a traitor tech to send a motion-sensored syndicate bomb core and blow up anyone who comes to open the package.

That's not how you spell "traitor QM who buddied up with traitor xenobiologist to dispatch lockered xenos bundled with sleep gas grenades".Zilenan91 wrote:Transferring anything in RnD to another station would be ridiculous

Jokes aside I think this is a good idea.
It would be a interesting idea to unreliably be able to get supplies at a discount.

Can you even make assemblies out of gold slimes to activate hostile mobs? It'd be interesting to set one of those suckers up to a motion sensor and throw them in the hall to ambush people.

Last I checked, the whole purpose of large grenades is they can hold slime cores + plasma.Zilenan91 wrote:Can you even make assemblies out of gold slimes to activate hostile mobs? It'd be interesting to set one of those suckers up to a motion sensor and throw them in the hall to ambush people.

What if you ship a cloning data disk? Could you clone people cross station?

Re: Inter-station Deliveries
They'd need to be connected to that server but theoretically yes.
Though realtalk, inter-station shipping would be kinda awful. What would happen is that one server would max RnD and then they'd transfer this over to each other over and over and basically make it so that RnD is always maxed everywhere. Would be particularly bad in Blob, cargo would ask for Xrays, they'd get them and then it'd be over in minutes.

Re: Inter-station Deliveries
We could just block certain game breaking items like data disks or high tier weapons.
Say its a bureaucratic issue.

Re: Inter-station Deliveries
Block weapons in general under the guise of a weapons embargo between stations to deter potential inter-station issues.
Honestly if I got a request from another station for supplies I'd probably just put a single note in the crate about how we aren't a charity and send it back.

Re: Inter-station Deliveries
Great idea to add a fun wildcard that will absolutely ruin 1/50 rounds by having roundstart mechs or crazy guns for sec or cargo.
This seems like a cool CODE idea, as in neat concept, but will be an unused gimmick ingame outside of a few weeks of people being aware enough to abuse it.

Re: Inter-station Deliveries
Goofball/Coreoverload were working on that Sellaporter thing, which allows you to sell most items for cargo credit. Having an established baseline price would be a good step 2 to this. We could allow people to set their own prices but I think there'd be a lot of "ROUND IS ENDING SHIP EVERYTHING FOR 0 DOLLARS"

Imagine shipping kudzu to the other station.
If someone could pull it off with extreme luck/timing, what would happen if the singulo was over the shuttle area when you hit send?
"your problem now, assholes!"

Re: Inter-station Deliveries
For the current inter-station communication, is the average crewman capable of viewing it? Like, does an announcement on Basil show up when Sybil sends a message?
Imo in order to prevent metagaming with braindeads transferring the comms console printouts should be the only way to see messages.

Re: Inter-station Deliveries
Would you be restricted to sending only what was requested, and if so, will there be restrictions on what can be requested in the first place?
Sounds fun, but oh so abusable/giffable if the answer to either of the above is no. Hell, there are hilarious ways to abuse it even if the answer is yes, to be honest.

From what I can tell, the interstation comms is used only for memeing at the other station. Funny and annoying.
