Nvidia showed off their 1080 and 1070 GPU's today. The 1080 is more powerful than 2 980's in SLI, or a single Titan X by around 22%, and will be priced at $550 starting June 10th. The 1070 is faster than a Titan X, and will be priced at $380.

Neat. I may try to resell my 980 and pick up the 1080. No single GPU can really handle 4k gaming yet, but the 1080 looks like it might be a viable option.

The 1080 should be a great card for those wanting just one. Very low power consumption with the ability for a good OC. I'm fairly sure the Ti version of it next year is going to play 4K no problems on a single card.

The 1070 is also a good deal. Shame it doesn't have DDR5X, but with 7.5GB it'll be the new go-to SLI card.

Citation needed on the "shrinking enthusiast market" bit. PC building is more popular than ever, and consoles are getting less and less appealing with each passing generation. This is coming from somebody who prefers AMD as a company.

Not sure I would agree either. Software sales are up. VR is the hot new shibble dibble and it requires a beast of a rig to function, giving people a concrete incentive to go deep on parts beyond MUH FRAMES/E-Penisu.

Anyone who thinks that mobile games pose a threat to PC or console games is delusional. Consoles are rapidly heading for a crash. PC is doing better than it has in a decade, and the market only has room to grow.

It helps that PC parts are cheaper than ever. Components like RAM, SSD's, physical media drives, cases, monitors, mice, keyboards, etc. is all dirt cheap. Your only big costs are the CPU and GPU. If you have a fulltime job and aren't completely idiotic when it comes to savings you can built a god-tier PC in a short amount of time.

For the price of a single weekend vacation you can get an entertainment system that can last potentially for the next decade. It's not the isolated shut-in box of the mid 90's early 00's anymore either. The concept of "telepresence" has come a long way, and I'm curious to see what affect roomscale and VR will have on that next. PC is the gateway to all this shit. If people aren't already buying into the tech, when they see the shit that is just around the corner...not just in gaming but in online social spaces, they will then.

Actually this makes me think about filing a patent for something I've had on my mind.
