Ponds / Aquaculture aquariums (sea hydroponics)

Post by FantasticFwoosh » #168377

First of all, what is a pond.

It is a hole with water in it. Otherwise known as a poor-mans water dispenser

Secondly what could you do with a pond? Anything really, if we're going the moat/water feature route, it could be impassable or not impassable. Primarily if you put water in a basic sand dug hole, its not going anywhere, and you could scoop water out and move it to another hole or connect a hole or two to make a small lake to paddle out in your dinky little boat (unless your radical and make lakes out of lava, for non-family freindly river cruises down the river styx)

Dont fish live in water? Good point, it would help add some more depth to this very simple addition.

I guess how do you encourage things to live in your hole filled with water? Easy, throw in food and wait, then simply sit back with your metal (fishing) rod made out of rods and hook some bites the old fashioned way using donk pockets or whatevers to hand for bait. Or if you're like those city folk who like to import fish for decoration or otherwise, just build a aquarium rig with the help of the city folk or a dinky little fish bowl made out of glass (careful not to drown on water reagents)

Indeed a giant mutant fighting fish/shark/carp that's grown too big and ravenous for its aquarium is a sight to behold. Pufferfish poison? no problem. Want to make some corn oil substitute cod liver oil? Sure, that swordfish certainly looks pointy, i wonder what would happen if you sharpened it? As many fish in the sea as there are stars, im sure centcomm would appreciate and pay top dollar for rare collector fish.

Here's just a collection of thoughts. Feedback would be appreciated ya'll, now if you excuse me i better get back to doing what i do best, snoozing under a moonless night.

This should be for Xenobiology. That sub department needs some variety, all it does is slimes and the occasional admin spawned specimen.

There's nothing wrong with fish and fishing as a concept, but you need to find someone willing to code it if you ever want to get it off the ground. The easiest person to convince is yourself (and after all, if you're not willing to make it, why should other people be?). On the whole, it could add a little interesting flavour, maybe you could even tie it into existing fish like space carp and space sharks.

Only really makes sense on away missions/lavaland, simply because there is nothing between the deck and space except two layers of metal and some lattice

I guess science could start with a aquarium in the RD's office to get started with a fish in it.

Making more aquariums to have a full botany esque (using as a template) rig either just around science or a outstrech of maint wouldn't hurt, especially if the RD or other research staff made a habit of going on more expeditions to obtain fish & science specimens. (obs not good news on rev rounds)
