as the guy who coded them, i'm obviously a little biased, but i think they're great fun. assistants flying off their board, down a corridor, and smashing into a wall is just excellent.
fun fact: head on head skateboard jousting tournaments can happen since if two skateboards collide only one rider will go flying

The other day I warned someone riding a skateboard on the shuttle that he was going to go flying out a airlock. Seconds later he hits a wall, goes flying into the airlock causing it to open, and spacewind pulls him out. 10/10 feature.
