Why do maps rotate when everyone only likes Boxstation?

I guess the title pretty much sums up the post. Everyone e always freaks out at map that isn't box station (or occasionally meta) so why have the map rotate?

Two maps are played regularly. Box, which I prefer, and meta. Both are fine. When the server switches to a different map, which it sometimes does regardless of majority preference, it's a random one of about 5 different options: bird, dream, ass, eff, mini. I'm never going to learn any of those 5 as well because they're so unusual, so it means the round experience is always a bit worse. Having more maps isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the fact I inevitably won't know them does seem to be a problem.

Mechanically what actually makes a map 'better' is totally unclear to me. I can spot mistakes like anyone else, but I've no idea why I find box so much more pleasant than meta, or why other people think the reverse.

Basically it's the same reason that you are more likely to prefer the flavor of syrup you first tried.

Or why people who hear a remix before the original almost always like the remix better.

First come first serve. Most people learned how to play on box, so box is the standard all other maps are held to, in a subconscious way. Anything that is different from box has to have a good reason for being different, or it's subconsciously considered a negative thing about the map.

I learned tf2 on 2fort but 100% hate it.

I generally like to seek out originals to remixes I hear, or the reverse, and have a rather open mind in that regard.

Box is the plain cracker of maps. It's perfectly satisfactory, sometimes even tasty, but only eat plain crackers for three years and you'd kill somebody for something different to eat.

Map rotation is one of the best additions ever to the game.

Because people like more than boxstation. Map rotation was made in response to a poll that I made, in which an overwhelming majority supported map rotation. I do however feel like the choices need to be culled a little. It should be Box, Meta, and maybe two other maps that get cycled out every now and then.

All the other dev maps (Birdboat, Mini, Dream) where created with assloads of flaws, and since people are essentially forced to play them (because there is no round to round vote system) people get pissed off. And you can't really blame them, no one wants to play on a map that has breaks in it.

Now if we had seperate servers for each of these maps, (or created a z-level to z-level thing where all stations are in the game at round start) it would be managable, because no one would be forced to play them, but those who enjoyed doing so could go over there and play with people who agree with them, instead of dealing with people going "SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE NOOOO PUBLIC AUTOLATHEEEEEEEEEEEE RIOTTTTTTTTTTTTT"

dust 2 is the most popular map and i have no idea why because it always devolves into 6 people sitting down mid/long with awps, 1 child screaming at his mom as he rushes down mid with a ump, 1 afk, me holding a gun to my head boh in game and irl and Beardbeard Godslayer rushing tunnels wit hthe negev he's been ecoing 10 rounds for

Map rotation is still awful. Sec is shit when they can barely navigate maint and the various departments. Every round there feels like a joke when you can murder someone in engineering secure storage and sec will look around in vain for 5 minutes and then give up without even finding it. Meta has this issue, while Asteroid and Dream suffer from this problem even more.

Moving the rooms around doesn't suddenly make the game more interesting, it just fucks with the flow of the round when you've got a complex and punishing game that keeps changing the map around.

I am going to point out, that in order to even qualify for map rotation, the map has to get at least 1 vote.

Metastation distributes the population much more evenly compared to Box, that is a reason I don't like it. Others include simply not liking the layout of the majority of departments.

Maps that aren't maintained shouldn't be in rotation.
