Lifeweb is a genuinely good game but the edgy kid shit, the community being absolutely dumpster-tier, the host being awful, and the game only being available on weekends is what killed it for me.

The Lifeweb servers are still up, however, even though their website is down.

From what I understand, Lifeweb was a good game ruined by a cancerous community. It's sad, it looked interesting from reading the wiki.

Realtalk, Lifeweb was actually one of the best games I've ever played from an RP perspective, so many systems worked in tandem together to just make it A+, with extremely lethal combat and needs designed in such a way to constantly force contact and thus conflict between people. Lifeweb could have honestly become a truly great game if Randy hadn't treated it the way he did.

The game looked great but the main community behind the game was essentially if you copied the worst aspects of /b/ onto it.

Who know's, maybe either this event might force the developer to either moderate their community so its not horse shit, release a open source of the code or he'll just double down on the Russian whitelist only community.

I'm going to crawl out from under my rock for a second and ask a question. What exactly is/was lifeweb? What was its setting, the few youtube vids of it I could find on a cursory search are unclear.

Lifeweb was medieval SS13 basically. It had an incredibly brutal medical system, and combat based mostly on RnG. The RP was usually quite good there because it was really organic because of how the mechanics were set up. It was a good game. It also has/had ERP mechanics which worked by clicking and dragging your sprite onto someone elses and it opened up a box with several orifice prompts depending on if they were naked or not, which you could click on, displaying a message in the chat, like for how it would work here, "Salts-The-Wound fucks Soothes-The-Wound!" over and over again as you clicked the prompt, which caused the characters to moan periodically as they were pleasured, eventually resulting in one or both of them climaxing and shooting out actual cum that could be licked up off the floor and be used as a reagent. I quite liked it, it was probably their best portable feature. It also had children which were completely compatible with the ERP system, and I was obviously not a fan of that.

Community was always utter shite though.

Its a sort of scifi fantasy game, it takes place on a very hostile world with a mix of low and high end technology (mostly low end).

Unfortunately, when the feds raid websites/houses and find that someone has uploaded CP, the host is often charged with image possession offences. Its also very hard to argue a jury out of pinging you for it if your website was "morally questionable" in the first place, because theyre going to associate one with the other.

Wasnt the host ruskie or something though? That would probably only make it worse.

Lifeweb isnt ded. Just the forum. The game server was still up all weekend like usual. If you have the IP saved then you can join whenever you want(still weekend-only though).

Everyone is right though. Whilst the game was really damn fun, the community was by far the worst ive ever seen. Such a shame. Hopefully the code gets leaked one day and someone decent can make a respectable server. People who judge Lifeweb before even playing it are really sad to watch. They are missing out on one of the most fun iterations of SS13. Sure its dark and there are plenty of questionable mechanics, but its a dark setting.

The game itself look really interesting and had a lot of mechanics that really added to the atmosphere (some which it be nice to implement into SS13, e.g. the not being able to see behind your character etc).
However the absolute toxic playerbase and playground "IM MORE EDGY THAN YOU" attitude that everyone took, including the host, just made me want to avoid it. Especially the secret club of "YOU CAN HAVE THE IP IF YOU CAN WORK OUT THIS RIDDLE! OMG IM SO EDGE. SO SHARP. WOW!".

Sure, its not something your usually going to shout out about, but its generally accepted while that the community is abhorrent the game itself is really good.

Never played lifeweb but a medieval era game in the style of SS13 would be amazing.

My hope is that one of the FBIs working the case decides the game looks cool and leaks the sourcecode. We can only dream.
