When the admins clamped down onfungriffons, that made me care less.
And now meatstation will get to be on the main.

Re: Do we really need Basil?
I have been here for many years, and been a primarily server 2 player. The lower population always appealed to me, and there seemed to be far more roleplay than you ever get on Sybil. Sometimes a bit metafriendy, but it was never as bad as people say. Sometimes it got really genuinely stressful dealing with the massive push to shut the server down, but now i am sort of past even giving a shit. Even in this whole fucking thread i have not seen a single actual argument to shut it down beyond "but i dont like it" and i honestly expected better from some of you.
Our population has been lower than ever lately, and i just dont have the energy to try and defend it anymore. Not sure what the fuck you all gain from it but if the people will it then sure, shut it down. I will become yet another phantom who doesn't even play the game and just posts here on the forums. I am sure no one really gives a fuck what i think anyways, maybe i just need to vent. Maybe getting away from this game will be good for me. Enjoy your OOC in IC guess the roundtype spacegame

Re: Do we really need Basil?
I think by merging the two servers, by way of the map voting system, will be overall a positive move.
Our population simply cannot sustain two servers many times throughout the year, I think that by consolidating the servers down to one we bring all the players onto one server, thus instead of getting 30 people on one server versus 5 to 10 people on another server, we get to combine them.
I've noticed in the past subtle differences in feedback between players based on the server they play on, lets be honest but playstyles and experience from one server may not hold true on the other. By combining them we ensure we have a single game play experience, meaning we can all drawn from the same game background instead of slightly different experiences due to the server.

Can we just run an experimental fork where coders can submit literally anything to it as long as it doesn't crash everything constantly? Every so often just nuke the whole thing when it stops working and start again with new stuff. Or a round that is always extended and never ever ends.

We've tried marathon rounds, they usually just crash the server. Record is like 8 hours or something. It could go longer if sticky doesn't show up. If the people paying for the server want to keep it around, it's their decision. Nobody not donating towards the server has any weight on if it should stay or not. Just opinions.
My opinion is that we should keep it around. So what if it has like 10 players max? Let them have fun with the other 9 players if they want to. They aren't hurting anyone.

Re: Do we really need Basil?
As someone who is putting down a few coins, here's my thoughts on things - our playerbase has ticked upwards over time, and is likely to expand further depending on how things go, so we're going to need a second server to deal with the overflow. But people are currently flocking to high-pop rounds where interesting things are happening, which stops interesting things from happening on Basil.
So maybe we should trial having a lower popcap on Sybil for a little while.

No rules bar rape/exploits/server crashing on Basil could be an idea. Shitters either get incredibly robust and evade the roundstart metagrudge lynch mob, or get gibbed by admins roundstart if we get reports about them being shitty.
There's actually no real reason to remove Basil itself unless you have a realllly good idea to use the money elsewhere but then you'd only really have a say if you were a donator in the first place.

Well... old code won't compile correctly on the newer versions of byond, but its not like coderbus rewrote everything from the ground up to port it to the new byond build.
So yeah, possible but would require a fair bit of effort to get working.

There was never really a time when code wasn't 'broken' at all, and it is the nature of SS13 to add and add and add and only rarely change or remove existing things. The only chances that are done are quality of life changes on interfaces or newer, prettier sprites. The What removed features/items/glitches do you miss? thread really shows how few things were actually removed or changed in a way which would make "before" and "after" the change significantly different.peoplearestrange wrote:Or a instance where everything was not broken but very much different?
What could be done is for the features and items which were removed to be re-added, but only made available on Basil. This would however require someone to invest a few hours into coding with no clear sign that it would be a benefit.
