A team named "The Patriots" won in a year where Trump got elected on a nationalist platform.

Atlanta has a lot of black people in it and the third highest population of gay people. The patriots quarterback and coach and owner of the team are all friends with the president, who golfs with them. People dont like the patriots because they win ball games and make excuses and accuse them of cheating. Despite the patriots quarterback getting a FOUR GAME suspension this season for not letting the football commissioner have his private cell phone (meanwhile a BLACK man only gets a one game suspension for beating his wife in public) patriots only lost two football games this season and won the trophy.

Patriots, just behind green bay (MY BOYS) are the best team in the NFL history period. They've won the most, they've got undeniably one of the best offensive lineups ever and on top of that arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the league (Though I will still argue that Aaron Rodgers is THE best quarterback right now if not ever.) This causes two things: They've got a shit ton of bandwagon fans that as soon as they even fall off a tiny bit you get "I NEVER LIKED THEM ANYWAY" and they're fans are also seen as obnoxious when they complain about a bad season even though nine times out of ten they'll make playoffs.
That's the main reason why lots of people hate the patriots. They're a great team, really well managed and their coach, Bill Belichick is the Gregg Popovich of the NFL. But they've got the most 13 year old fans in the league and they're always the most vocal. Also alot of people hate them currently because its argued that the Superbowl was won purely due to a coin flip due to the sudden death format that they had. If the Falcons had received the kickoff they would've won, but the patriots won the coinflip so they recieved the kick off and at that time there was very little the defence could do after conceding 28 points in two quarters.

Stop trying to compare it to rugby, its not rugby.
You can pass it forward once if you're behind your line of scrimmage. There's no scrums because as soon as the person with the ball's falls to the floor the play stops, though if the player falls to the floor and the ball bounces out of his hands the play is still going until a team has retrieved the ball, there's an entire defensive play where one player tackles, and another tries to strip the ball from the tackled player.
The only thing that's close to a scrum I guess is the fact that if the defence fails to put a player to the floor you can get the offence to get behind the player with the ball and physically push him forward. It's kinda of a scrum but the ball is still moving due to being live.

There's only shoulder pads, thigh pads, hip pads and knee pads for obvious reasons (you're going to get hit hard) and yes you can pass laterals at any point to any player. Though this is very rare as NFL players are fucking monsters and will more than likely catch lateral passes thus its generally not really used.
EDIT: Oh you mean from the sideline? Nope. If a player goes past the sideline thats basically going down for all intents and purposes and the line of scrimmage moves to wherever they went out. A drive is always started with a snap other than Kick offs.
You see it far more in CFB.

Why do football players need all that shit while rugby players do not?
Re: superbowl

Because Rugby players do not hit as hard as football players.
Understand this, as soon as padding was added the game changed. It's like saying "Why do bare knuckle fighters avoid punching the head whilst boxers always want to go for the head?". Hitting head with a bare knuckle HURTS, with a boxing glove though? You won't feel a thing.
Football developed padding and the hits got more and more progressively harder. The only thing that's illegal is to lead with the helmet and grabbing the facemask. Everything else? Fair fucking game, spear tackle the shit out of people, nobody will care and it'll get put in highlight videos on ESPN the next day.
Rugby developed more refined tackling techniques, wrapping your arms around the other players legs is how most tackles are done, that isn't required in Football when you can just run fast at someone and knock into them.
It was an evolution to the equipment in use. If Rugby had decided to use padding they too would have hits as hard as American Footballers, combine with the fact that Rugby players have to be more all rounded than American Football players due to having to play Offence and Defence. That's why they're generally not as fast as Receivers nor as big as Linebackers. Those positions are super specialised to do one thing.
