Xhuis' 2nd Annual-ish Winter Thaw (Finished)

The Winter Thaw is now over! Thanks to everyone for participating. Keep an eye out for the next one, coming to you later this year!

Another feature freeze is over, and you know what that means! Nothing. I haven't done anything special after a freeze for around two years. But I'm feeling inspired lately with work on umbrages, and I feel like doing another one of these, so welcome to:

THE WINTER THAW

This is a little event I'm doing from now until January 27. I'll be accepting minor, small additions from anyone that wants to submit them and picking randomly from the list and adding them into the game as best I can. This doesn't account for if maintainers reject it or the PR is otherwise closed somehow. To submit a suggestion, just post it down below. I'll post a screenshot of a name selector and go with whoever gets selected first. Changes will be PRed separately but I will code them as best as I can. Selections are done daily at 9:00 PM EST.

Last year's highlight was the drone dispenser, requested by GUN_HOG if I remember correctly.

Examples of things that ARE fitting suggestions:
  • Lava lamps, plasma balls, and random decorative clutter
  • Flickering lights in maintenance
  • A new traitor item
Examples of things that AREN'T fitting suggestions:
  • Remove revenants! (or anything, really, no removals!)
  • A new miniantagonist
  • Increase on stun baton effectiveness (no balance changes)

An idea I've had floating around in my head for a while but may be too large for something like this:
Light brightness should scale with power in the powernet.

Simply put, no external power = half dimmed lights (i.e. half of current brightness)
adequate/normal external power = normal lights
maximum overcharge external power = 2x brightness lights
The idea being that this incentivizes engineering to generate more power then is strictly needed, since more light makes everyone happy (except filthy antags)

I actually have code for this sitting on my local repo. It's completely finished, I just haven't PRed it. Welp, guess that'll count as your suggestion!

No offence, but I think you've vastly underestimated this.
Yes it's simple to do it, but just *doing* it isn't going to get accepted in a million years, light flickering needs specific optimisations for it, the lighting engine is a monster.
plus PJB is replacing our lights with vglights so you'd have to A. learn a new lighting engine and B. optimise that for flickers.

Well, it's something minor, so it counts! I probably wouldn't interfere with PBJ's work anyway, though. I owe him that much after stealing clocks.

Remote AI beacon for mecha. Most of the code is there since Malfs can do this via attack_ai(). Simply an advanced mech beacon that will allow the AI to upload itself to the mech's computer. Intent is to allow an AI to be uploaded to a mech without the restrictive step of having to go to the AI's chamber and card it first.

Kidnap Objective: Syndicate traitors have obtained a new special hypercube that living humans can be stuffed into. Maybe make it like ninjas energy net? Atleast your not dead i guess.

Stuffing bodies into Bags of Holding or being able to fold up bluespace body bags and putting them inside a backpack or BoH

NEW IDEA: Update the lavaland flora to be able to be dug up and planted elsewhere with a shovel, and start having different mushroom-y plants growing in the station's maint tunnels so that I can be UNGA MEDICINE SHAMAN, RED SHROOM GOOD GREEN BAD.

But if there is the kidnap objective it should probably take 30 seconds to put them into the kidnapper device so you cant just baton and kek em in 5 seconds

Hm.
I'm going to have them teleport to the holding cell area that ninjas port people to, since it never gets used. There'll be camera consoles there that let you watch what the station is doing but not interfere in any way.

Why not have the Bluespace bodybag do this? Just allow someone to fold it up with people inside, and you are good to go!

That was part of my suggestion!

Ah fuck it throwing my hat in fora Bluespace Bodybag folding to fit in a backpack or Corpses stuffed in a BoH for sheer shenanigans.

Someone could eventually expand it to stealing a whole body or something i guess. That would be amusing for lings for sure

Btw Xhuis, in the event that my idea is selected, I have some beacon HUD icons for indicating on a mech if it has a beacon (green) or AI beacon (blue) via Diagnostic HUD. WJ made them for me!

mix it with mint toxin to make a poison that has chances to induce vomiting and brain damage called the Poorly Koncoted Philter

I'd love a drink that gives you large stun reduction but once it wears off you have to live with way slower movement speed and you get stunned for longer.

BUT IT GETS BETTER, you can stave off the wear-down by drinking more. The more you drink, the worse the wear-off.

If you get addicted, wearing off gives you a heart attack. GOTTA GET MUH FIX.

as it currently stands, every time you move it cancels it and that is dumb :)

Chameleon carpet that looks like a floor tile and conceals whatever's under it. Can be rolled up and put in a backpack. Can only be used to conceal mobs if they're lying down and walking over them breaks the disguise (probably painfully).
