/tg/Station 13

Hello, as https://github.com/tgstation/-tg-station/pull/15794 gets closer and closer to completion, I'd like some input from the playerbase. Specifically over the NAME of the antag. Should they be called demons, or devils?

These proposed antags are soul merchants who go around buying people's souls with contracts for power, and wield a pitchfork.

With them having random names, I prefer Demon. There "is" just one Devil, after all.

Demon

I say we go with dnd classification. We are the tg server after all. Demons are chaotic evil, and mostly just fuck shit up. Quite like our slaughter demons. Devils are lawful evil and spend a lot of time trying to ensnare mortals in contracts and the like

Wyzack got it right, also prevents confusion with slaughtermemes.

They are DEVILS, because they are LAWFUL EVIL, because they sign CONTRACTS and obey rules and shit.

DEMONS are CHAOTIC EVIL, and just run around MAKING EVERYTHING COVERED IN BLOOD.

I've never agreed with the plural usage of Devil, to me there exists only Devil, not "Devils"
you can probably work out my stance from that.

To me: devil is synonymous with the damned. Demons are the custodians of hell.

Imagine people boiling in a pot of blood for eternity. Those people are devils. The creature that makes sure the pot stays boiling is a demon.

At least thats what I've always been taught.

Just call it a trader demon if you're that worried about people confusing slaughter demon and soul merchant.

I guess that's true. To be honest both names are fairly generic. Devil and demon are synonymous anyway, there's no mythological difference (except that the BBEG is always The Devil, rather than The Demon).

Aright, it was a close poll, but 13/11, demon wins. It's staying named demon.

Hold up, bow about we try to come up with something else? I like the Judeo-Christian version of demons and devils in that Satan is the one Devil and his minions are demons, more or less. Maybe this antag can be physical manifestations of Saran, and thus be something like Satan Manifestations or Devil's Acolytes.

Demon. "Devil" is usually used to refer to a single entity.

Apparently because Jesus and his followers throw satan and devil around a lot "the devil" is by definition literally a group of people. Not like sweet little Jesus was doing the ancient Hebrew equivalent of swearing like a sailor and using devil and satan as insults too much no sir.

Jesus was a rebellious liberal hippie who hung out with prostitutes and social minorities. I may be agnostic but Jesus was a rad dude, I'd totally chill with him.

So, it's supposed to be a fucking devil, but because majority memes it's not gonna be a fucking devil.

Why don't admin vetos happen where they're important.

The Devil went down to Centration, he was looking for a soul to steal. He was in a bind because he was way behind and he was willing to make a deal.

I was gonna say "add fiddles 2k16" but I remembered that fiddles are literally just violins. With remembering that, I'll be very disappointed if we don't name this antag Devils or something of the like.

Side note, what if the violin could be alt+clicked like the bartender's shotty to be renamed to a fiddle, violin, or viola. Maybe they'd be slightly reskinned or something, but for simplicity's sake the sounds would probably be exactly the same, unless someone wants to tackle making more viola-like sounds. We could do the same for the guitar, allowing banjos and ukuleles and such.

And if you haven't figured it out, I support Devil as the name.

EDIT: Also, add a golden fiddle. Maybe make it do extra brute damage on impact cuz it's made of friggen gold.

Golden fiddle makes sense, any mechanical difference doesn't. I feel like a golden fiddle would probably not be solid because you kind of need empty space for the string vibrations to go woowowowooowoowoo
Make the golden fiddle spawn in the Devil's inventory, otherwise unobtainable.
