Tutorial video?

I've heard discussions on this for a while now, but no one's really taking up the mantel. I was thinking i'd make a tutorial video/possible short tutorial series on the basics of SS13 for new players. There's a few out there now so i'm not sure if it'd be worth it.

If i did attempt a tutorial series, what should i cover? Is there a way anyone would want me to do/cover that the currently available ones don't?

These are the things I see a newbie struggle with the most

* Basics of equipping objects
* Defending themselves
* What objects do (Maybe just a rundown of common objects?)
* Where everything is

Don't forget a honerable mention for conversion based game modes, more so mention for the player to not give away they've been converted to the crew.

We should just have tutorials like goon do, it shouldn't be hard to replicate, just some datums and maps.

Nobody will maintain that. If there's one thing SS13 coders don't give a crap about, it's teaching people how to work with the things they've made. Granted, nobody will maintain video tutorials either. And barely anyone maintains the written introductory tutorials on the wiki.

My suggestion for making video tutorials is to just do it. In my experience if you plan and discuss stuff like this for any non-minimal amount of time, the drive to do it peters out. And if it doesn't, the benefits from discussing it are minimal. The reason is that answering the question of "what high level topic to make a tutorial on" is easy: Basic movement/interaction, 1 for each job group (engi, sec, cargo, ...) and then you can do more if you still feel like it. By that point you will likely know what else needs to be covered. If you however want actual questions answered: How to present concepts, how to split the video's time between segments, whether to make a script and plan things out or just wing it, whether to edit it down, what the best length is, whether to have branding / intros and outros, etc. You will find the answer to none of these here. My suggestion is literally to just do it - make a minimal effort video, upload it and see if it's good enough. If it is, great! If it isn't, it can be improved on through iteration. Don't plan out the things, which can be improved through iteration, more than they need to be planned out.
