Skyrim Thread - Tamriel Online Edition

I couldn't find a skyrim thread that wasn't about DLC cost so here goes.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/67038/?

This mod is called Tamriel Online. basically it's fucking LAN for skyrim. Like a few days ago it was updated and now

Code: Select all

Version 2.0.0
NPC synchronization, positions are synchronized, idle animations, quests, combat, death, etc.. Fixed crash when loading a game, after disconnecting. Improved movement and position synchronization between worldspaces, locations, and cells. Improved customization synchronization. Removed some unnecessary papyrus code. Fixed issue where NPCs would huddle around invisible dead bodies. Fixed crashing upon new game, the mod will now only start after you have created a character, briefly after you first gain control of your character. Fixed issue where character does not disappear when another player disconnects.

*A big thanks to "KaptainTrite" for testing, and informing everyone during my absence.

*NPCs are synchronized based on the host player when the host is near, and based on whoever has the highest priority when the host is not near. I will be adding in a server option that will allow you to specify one specific person as the host, sometime this week.
Before it was iffy at best more like a framework of a mod, but now everything is synced up so people can fight the same NPCs together and they will all be in the same place for each other. As far as I know it works with all mods lots of people are still testing it out.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TamrielOnline/ ... confidence is a test server currently up for it. Some of the mods they are using are
Test server up for people with, and ONLY with,
all CLEANED DLC, Unnoficial Patches, SKYUI, and mod. (Texture mods okay)
you should probably get alternate start, too. Loading games seems iffy.
120.148.180.6 Please no DDoSerino.
TEAMSPEAK: tamrielteamspeak.cloudapp.net
Update: Teamspeak server is working fine, Someone went and killed a dragon or something, then the server started stabbing itself in the shins. Loading saves are iffy at the moment.
Update 2: Server should autorestart if it crashes now, I'm heading to bed.
Update 3: there seems to be a specifically questionable nature of the stability of the mod, I assure you, most of it is probably the server. It's literally hosted on a regular, Windows 7 gaming pc. And, get this, it's in kangaroo land.
Average US ping is anywhere from 130 to 300 (without packet loss)
Test server is mostly Seeing that things are kinda working out.
I haven't really played much of the mod but I thought it was really interesting. Maybe someone would even want to host a tg group server WINK WINK.

I'm not really sure I don't even know actually, I think it says it syncs to the host if the host is near so it probably goes to whoever is the highest priority that's near the dragon.

I'm pretty sure console commands work for people so you could get around it maybe probably by just command adding yourself souls. It's still a super early mod and this guy that's working on it is like the hype-god for a lot of people on /r/skyrimmods right now (sorry for being a redditshill).

Fuck this actually sounds cool, how many people can you have in one server?

as far as I know it's unlimited, the mod has only been this functional for a few days now. I mean people have been playing with it for a year or so but it's been pretty bad until now. There are probably still lots of bugs and things broken with it but the mod creator hasn't really been able to test things like how many people it takes to break the game or anything

it's a Bethesda game so it's perfectly capable of breaking on its own

yeah but I've never really ran into CTDs on vanilla skyrim without mods, and in this mod people were having frequent CTD's until some of these recent updates. A few days ago I would have never made a post about this cause it wouldn't be worth mentioning, but now it's actually semi-stable with very less CTD's

Last time I played skyrim I spend like 2 weeks modding the shit out of it, and making all the mods play nice with each other.

Then I played like 5 hours and found out that the crashes were because of the shitty engine not allowing the game to use all my vram, so I stopped playing - because crashing half the time when I load the open world was pretty meh.

Was still fun though.

While this sounds like potentially a lot of ridiculous fun with a group, I don't see how we could ever do this unless we have some kind of strict vanilla-only doctrine.

It's bad enough just getting a bunch of mods to play nice with eachother on a single client.

Imagine getting a bunch of assholes together trying to play multiplayer when everyone is running their own special snowflake set of addons.

You'd need to get 1 guy to setup the client with all the mods and shit, then send it to all your chucklefuck mates so you're running completely identical stuff.

Speaking about arma, but in my arma2 clan, we had our resident tech dude, who setup custom script thingos for each tac mission (we ran them every friday).

So you'd just download the little .exe, run it, and it would download all the right files off the clan repository, and correctly load them up and shit.
It was neat.

These days there's bitsync.

Probably what anyone hoping to run some kind of potential Skyrim server would use for their group.

What if we just agreed on a small core set of mods to use?

It's not like we'd want to mod the shit out of it anyway probably just something like

Code: Select all

legendary skyrim (all dlc)
legendary USKP (all dlc)
immersive armors/weapons / maybe some idv. armor/weapons people want ie: beserk's armor/swords
violens + FNIS
Frostfall or Campfire
maybe a food mod like iNeed
Alternate Start life another life
maybe a house mod like Elysium Estate/Legacy of the Dragonborn
DUEL/Combat Evolved
Static PERMAzones / Morrowloot Ultimate; for deleveled skyrim

I am a big fan of the hardcore survival mod that goes with frostfall, but this looks good to me. We wanna get serious about setting this up?

I already got most of these downloaded I'd just have to make a new profile in MO. I'm pretty sure I can't host though
edit: dreams dead, most of the comments on the nexus are about how having USKPs and DLC pretty much cause crashes. probably gonna take a while for a fixerino

it's actually compatible with pretty much everything, as long as everyone has the same mods. But some mods might make the game more unstable. I don't know if animation mods do something horrible though

yeah I think so too, and a lot of the people on nexus fourms for the mod are saying the only way they can get the mod to work atm is through vanilla.

How will level scaling work? Will it just scale off the host?

by TheWiznard
Unless we have some mod like community uncapper I'm pretty sure it's just vanilla level scaling for everyone
edit: and the default skyrim leveling system isn't that challenging so it shouldn't really be a prolem

If we did use a mod it ought to be an alternate start mod.

Does that one need the script extender though? Most of the good ones do. Anyways i will take a more serious look at running this when i get off work tomorrow

nope alternate start doesn't need SKSE
Installation Requirements

Official Skyrim patch 1.9.32.0.8 or greater. Using earlier game versions will result in CTDs and other problems. Just don't.
Official Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn DLCs are required.
Use of the Unofficial Skyrim, Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn Patches is STRONGLY recommended.

Put the game on the bullshit hardest difficulty.

Play with no mods except for lover's lab.

Everyone goes to a separate corner of the world.

It becomes a sort of "hunger games" survival where the last person who hasn't been violated by another player wins.

edit: video showing some footage of the current mod build, marked nsfw because early in the video there are some skimpy armors or something.

I think that's pretty cool, as far as I know the only too mods worth using are alternate start and death alternative. because if you die apparently you disconnect and load your last save. also there are apparently a lot of bugs currently some of which are here ; seems like it has tendency to crash often and apparently when you crash you can't reconnect to the game unless the host restarts the server. the guy and his friend from the video said they were playing for about 2 hours each while recording and each crashed about 10 times.

I don't know if the mod is feasible really for a group to play yet, but I still think it's pretty freakin cool there is even this much play-ability as it is. even if it takes a few months for him to hammer out the bugs I don' think there are any other mods like this for the game.

I had this mega mod called requiem which turned skyrim into an ultra roguelike difficulty with realistic damage and stuff because I am a masochist and that is the only kind of game that can get my rocks off to anymore. Might wanna host one like that when it is less buggy
