Isn't the entire reason it was banned in the first place, because of the fact that there's underages on the server, and legal responsibility for any reports of people having sex with folks underage, even in the form of written erotica, would fall back on the host by default for hosting an environment that made it possible?


now, don't get me wrong here, I ain't against people being retards and slapping their pickles against whatever thick ham tornado they manage to find in the depths of maintenance, so long as they're not doing it to the detriment of their actual goddamn job, but.

isn't this a bad thing from a legal / liability perspective?

granted I haven't played much spacemans in the past few years, but I lurk these forums from time to time because it brings back some fun memories of what things were.

Feel free to step up here and tell us if you are under the age of 18 so we can take the proper measures to ensure you don't see potential lewd content. "Joke" responses will be taken seriously.

Technically you're supposed to be at least 18 to play on here. We know half the server isn't, of course, but so long as they say they're 18, that's enough to satisfy the law.

Alright, alright, I'll accept that, but is there a way, record wise, to prove that folks are claiming they're 18?

The disclaimer in big red text that says "You must be 18 years old or older to play here" is enough to satisfy the law.

Just like how if you went to your older friends house to play GTA it isn't the fault of Rockstar that you've played it, it's the fault of your parents for being terrible at their job.

We will actually soon be restricting ERP to basil only, and turning it into a whitelist server. You'll have to provide ID to join but it would keep us safe from the law.

well then you run into the problem of whether or not you're authorized to take that ID.

Perhaps the whitelist, if such a thing is done, could be automated by having a system that adds a note to the player's history upon first connect, asking "Are you over the age of 18."

This solves the issue of people having to upload a copy of their government issued ID to the internet to show to a complete stranger.
And it solves the legal requirement of having the players "affirm" they are of age for such content.


I might not be around much anymore, but I still don't want to see this project get wrecked from something as dumb as people bumping their pixel spacemen together.

Well when you go to an adult website, it says, generally, are you over eighteen, yes or no, if you click no, generally, it redirects you away from such content.

Now I know people usually get their jollies in this game by beating clowns with toolboxes...

For those that want to get their rocks off in a way that doesn't involve some nerd hitting the spawn meteors button in the fun panel, perhaps, maybe, segregation is a good idea, for once.

I mean I'm not particularly against the idea of someone squeaking the mattress with more ferocity than an army of deranged clowns, all armed with bike horns, the lot of them dosed to their eyeballs on a mixture of meth and a rail of white lightning ripped off Ian's fluffy little asscrack, but time and place for everything.

I like the idea of restricting the lewd to a single server, because of the simple fact that, quite honestly, it essentially gives the administration a fun little sandbox to grief people in for having bad spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

The disclaimer is more than enough.

Yeah this is just paranoia. No authority will care about some silly ERP in a very niche game. Even if they did take legal action, we could settle the matter by simply adding a "are you over 18?" yes/no prompt when you join the server, or just ban ERP again.

Dont worry about it.

We have a big "MUST BE 18 OR OVER" and we ban anyone who says they're under 18, even if they're 'lol joking'.

I dont think the server is in need of gaspy paranoia about "OMGWTFBBQTEHLAW"
