The cat-people

Sooo, since this seemed like the best forum for this.
Is it allowed to treat humans which has either cat-ears or cat-tails the same as lizardmen and other mutantraces? Aka as lesser beings, because to hell with their spesshull snowflakes.

According to the coder, cat people are NOT human.
When asked, sticky didn't say we couldn't kill them on sight.
That's about it.

Currently as far as the rules are concerned cat people are the same as lizards.

Jordie, the reason why I asked is since they aren't actual 'cat-people', aka not another race. Its a mutation of cat ears and cat tails that humans can add to their characters.

Personally I think these policies are ridiculous and players being more or less "valid" because of how much their character is a "snowflake" just makes me roll my eyes really hard.
But I play on this server once in a blue moon and really just hang around here so I can see previews of future changes that might appear downstream for other servers running tg code so my opinion isn't particularly important.

There's no reason to discuss this policy, they were only turned on to mitigate a nasty bug that has since been fixed. As soon as someone with config file access comes around the cat people will be turned off, probably forever.

Well, good the catbug's been squashed. The line of suicides and braindeads was getting kinda long.

We could just remove validity entirely.

This thread is already full of 'gotta get muh valids' and 'kill all furries'.
Disgusting.

No Kel, the point of the thread was if they could be treated the same as Lizardmen, not for valids.

Yeah, and then it got filled with 'gotta get muh valids' and 'kill all furries'.

Cat people and lizards and the like aren't any more "speshull snowfleks" than someone with a blue beard and green hair, and there's no cry to be able to valid against those types of people. I don't get the hate. There's nothing intrinsically bad about them.

wait so... if the mime or clown gets the cat ears from the costume vender in theatre and put them on themselves or someone else... whoever is now equipping the cat ear outfit item is valid? that sounds retarded. Or do actual cat people look different than the costume cat people?

Basically people don't wanna catch the fur and prove how not-furry they are by screaming and raging at anything that isn't human.
The upshot of this is that no furs are allowed even if it's a reference to Firekkans or Gorn or whateverthefuck that Larry Niven cat race is that's been around in sci-fi longer than furries have even been a thing.
From a
gameplay perspective though, it kinda fucks up disguises, which is a valid concern and should probably be addressed with human skinsuits or something for lizards to wear like the bad guys from
V.
Memories of taking an argonian into the thalmor embassy. "Wait, is that a tail?"

There's really no need to over complicate things. Just make them the same as lizards. Then people actually have to pay to be spesshul.

I'm torn on this. I don't think Validity is Bad in and of itself. I think the Culture of Validity is bad though.
I just know that I have no issues with cat people.
It's the ones that will probably wander around with JUST the tail that will irritate me.

I think the idea of cat-people in itself is a great one (think Khajiit, Tajara, et cetera - we have Argonians/Unathi already!), but I'm not entirely sure giving them glue-on ears and a tail is the way to solve that. Primarily, it's not anatomically correct, why do they have furred ears and tails but no fur on the rest of their bodies? Why do they have two sets of ears? A tail in the first place, when the big toe functions as a method of natural balance as well?
What I'm saying is, the premise is good, but it needs work. Make it an actual race, not a human-hybrid option.
Furthermore, anyone saying "gas the furries" or anything like that is insecure in their masculinity, and projecting that onto an irrational fear of anything tangenially furry-related. Screemonster hit the nail on the head here.

it also seems like a good idea to differentiate "cat people" from "a human wearing the kitty ears costume item" if cat people arent going to be protected in the same fashion humans are... unless "a human wearing the kitty ears costume item" is going to lose their human status the second they put that item on... which would be HORRIBLE because then you could put the item on someone else and murder them without the AI caring.

What the fuck does this even mean?
All valid kill means is that killing the person won't get you banned. Are you suggesting all kills result in a ban?

All genetic mutants should be non-human, including those with TK/CR/XRAY/HULK/etc.
Especially chav - space all chavs!

Not everything has an immediately obvious outside effect, how would you distinguish? Checks for everyone...?
Also is there a way to tell cat people apart from people simply wearing a cat hat? Particularly for the AI/Borgs, as ultimately they are the ones effected by the no human ruling.
I can see this heading into the stupid realm again of what makes something human. I mean is an MMI in a mech a human? It's not bound to any laws and it carries the name of the character the brain was removed from. Is a cloned person truely human, not simply a copy of the original?

MMIs aren't human, they're brains in jars and thats it.
The mutations that people are jerks with (hulk and tk) are very visible. Cold resist also makes you glow, and xray can be checked by shining a flashlight into people's eyes.
Not sure if CLOAK or CHAM have any outward tests except for dragging them in the dark...
Kitty ears as headwear will show up when you examine people or try to strip them. (although I'm not sure if borgs can still strip people or not, and I'm not sure if the AI being unable to examine people was ever fixed.)

AI can't examine people. I always assumed that was just a design choice.
It can if you get close enough to the core though, so still in time to fire the lasers.

Hulks are mutants, and they don't classify as humans. Cat people are mutants too, so I don't see why they would.
You can go into semantics but the scientific definition of species involves reproduction so let's not go down that road.
