That's it. That's the suggestion. Add "chat" to the filter.
Addressing the crew as "chat" is just ock ick.

I'd be against adding chat to any of the filters. Not because I don't think it's OOC in IC, but because it has too many valid uses as a word outside of that.
For example I don't want sec officers to to get the "are you sure about this?" popup any time they tell a crim they're taking them to the brig for a little chat.
I'd encourage players to report instances of OOC in IC like this and encourage admins to action it.

‘Chat’ has so many uses besides the example you gave. This is dumb and stupid and I think chat should -2 you for this.

If the curator is using the broadcast camera, then I honestly think they should be allowed to refer to the crew as 'chat'.

But I'd feel bad. I don't want to get people noted or banned unless they are straight-up griefing.

You have to pick a side because not everything can fixed by a filter or coder if you genuinly feel its too OOC you should ahelp it worst that may happen people just get a small heads up like hey don't do this

I think this is something worth bringing up at a community meeting so everyone can get on the same page and players can provide each other with casual correction and/or know that it's worth bringing up to admins if someone is being annoying about it

I agree that refering to crew as "chat" is lame and ooc, but it has too many possible IC meanings to even soft filter it imho

You should add things to the filter if there’s no real use case (like the n word or other obvious cases of OOC-IC). Chat has other uses so it should not be added to the filter, but rather admins should be enforcing bad use cases (400000+ strong team btw)
Also i dunno if this is just doompilled but idk what a community meeting is going to do for this specific issue. A gamemaster going “actually…. You can press f1 over that!” Seems like it could just be a ping or added to the MOTD or whatever shows up when you first connect.

I think there's this mentality that players have where they don't want to adminhelp little things like this because they don't want to come off as needy or too sensitive/bother the admins too much. The problem is, when you ignore these kinds of things and let them build up too much, that's what leads to significantly lower RP standards.
I think a meeting where we talk about what you can and shouldn't bring to us would be valuable.

If you add chat to the filter the way Timber suggested someone who's saying "Hello chat" will just confusedly say "hello chat" anyway.
There's nothing criminal about ahelping this sort of thing, although I feel it will depend on the admin in question if they'll action this.

Its more of an issue if someone gives themselves "Chat" as their first or last name because then you have an ic reason for people to ask questions to chat on radio.

In the end context is key

You cannot have your cake and eat it too. The filter is not that kind of automoderator tool. It is not going to be fairer than a human, it's dumb and blind to context.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but, I'm actually opposed to this suggestion. Not because I don't think saying "chat" isn't cringe and lowering RP standards, but because fucking zoomers actually say this shit in real life. Some people are even arguing that "chat" is becoming the first fourth-person pronoun in the English language.
So this isn't really a policy defending protecting RP standards on Manuel, unless you want to argue zoomers are ick ocking in real life. This is more akin to "Boomers yell at zoomers about their culture being cringe and make policies banning it.".

But it is inconsequential. It blocks the message but does nothing hostile (note/ban/etc) to the player. It's a non-confrontational way to fix ock ick.

People having to click "yes I meant it" to post totally acceptable usages of a not terribly uncommon and normal word is a significantly bigger problem than having to get over a feeling of guilt about notifying admins that someone is breaking the rules, I am afraid.

I'd rather suck up my discomfort over seeing ock ick than get a guy banned for saying "chat". Result: status quo.

tbf they'd need to say "hello chat" an awful lot of times to be banned. But I do respect the concession.

It would be more like they would be asked not to do it, possibly noted if they keep doing it 3-4 times, then really short bans until they get the idea.
It would take someone outright explicitly ignoring being told not to do something many times for them to actually even get to short bans over it. We are very lenient on OOC in IC unless someone is refusing to follow the rules over time.

We won't add it to any filters because it has too many valid IC uses as a word.
Players should definitely ahelp suspected OOC in IC when they see it. The tickets usually require 0 interaction with the admin team if you give the name or an exact copy-paste of what they said and usually get resolved without any additional input from you, the ahelping memeber of the public.
When players don't ahelp, it requires admins to not be """roleplaying""" in ASAY. Your ahelp interrupts the admin polycule's """roleplay""" """session""", directing them to potential rule breaking behaviour to be resolved in record time so the """roleplay""" can continue.
The average OOC in ICer gets a low severity note unless they keep doing it in which case they start to get worse notes or bans. So don't worry about huge OOC in IC ban waves or 1984 punishments from your ahelp. It's exceptionally rare OOC in ICers get more than "stop doing this shit" short-duration timeout bans at the very worst for repeat behaviour, because once admins start telling them to stop fucking around it's usually corrected quite rapidly.
