Why should this appeal be accepted?: Applied by BMON last year, never really bothered contesting it because he threw it on the very literal last possible second this was possible, so I never had a chance to 'break' it. Given that it's that time of year again, and not only is this now more well known, but an admin has told me in another conversation that as long as I'm not going around abusing the presents I have to hunt valids that it's fine, and another admin has pestered me about this note, I figured I'd put in an appeal for it.

I'm afraid I don't really agree that this needs to be lifted. I was telling another admin last night in admin channels that we should be actively asking people not to do this as it feels like "gamifying" the whole present aspect too much for me. There's not really a valid reason to be doing it other than "I want a debug item/uplink/pulse or instagib rifle!" which I think is uber cringe. If you were doing this and then handing the presents out still wrapped to people, that would be one thing, but from the sounds of things, you weren't.

Players should reasonably not be abusing something that's intended for fun and interesting interactions just so they can gamer real hard on people, even if you're not actively using them to hunt valids.

If one of the admins who actively told you to appeal this comes by and says something, I'd be open to reconsidering this, but I do agree with Bmon in that this behavior should be discouraged.

I talked to Data about it and they said they basically told you that you were allowed to appeal it even if that admin wasn't around anymore. I'll talk to xzero when they're around.

E: xzero says they're going to come reply to the thread, I think I know how I want to handle this though and it'll depend a little on their reply

As an aside; I was told it would probably be a good idea to actually MENTION the odds of presents in here. Currently, a Dumpster costs about 1k, and has roughly a 1/24 chance of even containing a present. Presents pull from the ENTIRE item pool save for a very minute blacklist of things that could crash the server (something which is insanely more bloated after Circuits but personal gripe, haha). To set this up you would have to build up a nest egg of at least a few hundred thousand credits, which is something that takes a lot more effort nowadays compared to the un-nerfed stock market of last year. Timeline wise I (personally) get a 'reliable' cycling of presents started at about 45 minutes into a shift, which is usually over half of the round done before I even get my first Dumpster Gift.

Me and Dramazing have decided to holly jolly remove the note, Timber was not around for consideration and we decided to act swiftly in the sake of removing it before Christmas day.

I'm cool with its removal. Is only a seasonal event, y u heff to be med?

Let the players exploit this dumb shit, it goes away very quickly unless a certain ocelot-shaped headmin buddy goes to test merge a PR extending the duration, and if such a freak occurrence does happen then it is a headmin skill issue and not a player one.

[Edit - I also see mention this feature may be removed after this year's Christmas event so in any case it's a twice in a lifetime event not to return until the next coder enables it by accident.]
