Make walk speed be faster (probably half that of running?)

Walking is too slow right now to be useful in any roleplay capacity, sure, going over wet tiles without slipping and stuff is useful, but if you want to walk to give a person a chance to reply when you're going away? Now it just looks like you are limping because of how slow it is, and it's much better to just manually tap the movement key while running, which is stupid.
What I'm proposing here is to increase the walking speed to be about half as fast as running so it can actually be reasonably used without it looking like you are limping or something

I agree.
As it currently feels to me, movement is super weird where on one hand running is stupidly fast and gets you from one side of the station to the other in 15-20 seconds, to the point that anyone who runs offscreen while you type might as well be in Narnia, and on the other hand walking feels like walking through a neck high pool of cold honey.
Unrelated but watching melee combat looks so stupid on TG, it's like watching two roided up ants high on sugar try and blungeon each other over the head with a grain of dirt.

Is walk speed even config, or is this a code issue?

I was looking at config trying to test something on a localhost and saw it there, it IS config

Make walk speed run speed, run speed admin-spawn jackboots speed and admin-spawn jackboots speed you don't change 'cos that's code stinky.
EDIT: I forgot this is the serious subforum, I don't think anyone walks and increasing walk speed to anything that isn't running will keep the game theorized's meta of never walking.

Idk what you mean, you talk with your feet so you the spessman can't walk and talk at the same time. There's probably a problem I am not seeing?

IIRC the default is 4, could probably serve to be raised to 3. I agree

The only appeal of walkspeed is the word walk. If that gets you in character more power to you, but it seems just as likely that people are just going to assume you are injured as opposed to walking non-chalantly.
And walking WHILE injured? why would anyone inflict that on themselves. Maybe walking should just cap your movespeed instead of beiny cumulative with other debuffs.

I think your reason is a bit silly but the problem is real headmins please fix. just don't fix it too hard walking being slow has mechanical value (water spills, etc)

i like walkspeed where it's at right now. it's good for precision movement, and also dancing in circles around tables while i play a banjo.

I always found the idea that everyone was running around to be funny when you think about it. Not saying everyone should be made to walk for RP, but imagine going to the store and all the employees are flat out sprinting all over.

Funnily enough that last part is what it felt like working at a fast food place on Friday evenings or during sports matches.
I do not miss that job in the slightest, good lord.

Maybe a sprint/walk/sneak? It does feel silly that you're running everywhere while walking is incredibly slow and feels like you were sneaking IRL. There should be space for that without having to get on your belly and crawl around a chasm, funny and semi-realistic as that would be.

AFAIK if you use arrow keys instead of WASD you're able to move at the same time you talk?

The up arrow pulls your last message, and then the message before that, and so forth. The down arrow does the opposite. So, unless you can toggle that off, you still talk with your feet

Ok, looking into it what you're actually supposed to do is use arrow keys and type in the command bar.

for clarity you are not supposed to do any of that, it's in the game because that was the old control style and accommodating the old is good practice (they yell when they can't move) but we don't design around people playing that way. IDK maybe someone in this chain is just baiting.

It is not a joke. I do not use hotkeys and instead play by typing say in the command bar and clicking all the UI buttons to do things. I do not know how to use hotkeys.

I can second this because for like a full year I didnt play with the hotkeys and used the command bar for everything. Mostly because I didnt know how to swap to hotkey mode, but thats besides the point. it was especially fun quick switching into shove and grab intents by jumping my mouse back and forth.

The hotkeys just don't work for me and never have. Most of the listed keys don't do anything. That's why I still use arrow keys and typing in the say bar, personally.

I don't know how much of that is a "feature" or a "bug" (probably both), but certain older coded servers like Baystation have a thing that, when you open the chatbox WHILE moving, you will still move in that direction and can type into the chatbox. It's pretty neat to answer on the go without stopping.

This is not a thing to discuss in the Policy Discussion as admins have no power over the code, but I agree.
It would be nice to have 3 types of movement:
- Sneaking - Current Walking speed
- Walking - Current Running speed
- Running - Fast but requires stamina or something
But as I said, this is not a sufficient suggestion for this forum as it is just about the Policy and Configuration changes.

No head admins have seemingly taken an interest in over a month, closing the thread.
