we're supposed to be an autism-friendly community, and yet, we have no factorio thread. now could someone please explain that to me?
anyways, all things factorio related. NO COUNTING ALLOWED
please include all space age spoilers in a spoiler or else my biter army will bite your ankles

My autistic engineering ass is excited as fuck for Space Age. So excited in-fact I literally have my home tab be a countdown to it:
https://www.tickcounter.com/countdown/5770492/spaceage
Coped by playing Krastorio 2, then Space Exploration, and now I'm playing Monifactory (modern nomifactory (minecraft gregtech modpack))
Krastorio 2 was fine but TBH it didn't really scratch any itches for me. It just felt like a more unrefined Factorio experience with More.
Space Exploration 2 has this horrible 40 hour window where you gotta go setup on other planets before you can really move on with everything but there's this huge infrastructure hurdle you have to get over for it. Then I kinda took a look at the space science recipes and I mentally checked out. Maybe I'll go back to it but I just don't think Space Exploration is all that people cut it up to be.
Space platforms look like way too much fun. I could see myself designing platforms for hours upon hours. All the planets look really interesting too and overpowered in their own rights... which is fuckin' awesome. That was my biggest issue with Space Exploration- the other planets are just worse and less interesting than your starting planet.
Also quality makes me drool. I get that some folks don't jive with Quality but I'm absolutely going to be spending hours designing shit just for Quality.

I'm interested and scared of the DLC at the same time, because while Factorio is fun and I enjoy it, if I start a playthrough with my buddies it's gonna consume a whole sleepless week of time until we send that rocket. I shudder to think what will happen when Space Age increases that playtime.

Here's my seablock factory from hell, too large to zoom out so its just the map layout
Only additional mod ive got is boats, and I'm only using the small ones.
up the middle of the main land mass is a sushi artery where all the crystalized ores flow until they branch off for further refinement, but theres so much crap from filter shells to crushed stone byproducts to gemstone byproducts that almost anything can cause a backup.
I have probably a dozen conveyors crossing the entire factory cause routing a boat would cause sorting issues or would cause traffic backups
I have probably fifteen different pipes full of waste products stretching the entire factory because trying to process something like sulfuric waste leaves you with a solid byproduct which is even harder to get rid of. I could just clarify it but I don't want to waste waste.
I also have no use for nickel because I'm still not using all the tin I've got and I can't use it for iron until my overflow of silicon is dealt with. Right now all the ores I can't use are piling up at the northernmost island and theres enough nickel that I built it it's own silo.
My petroleum setup is blue algae based because it lets me divert excess towards nitrous compounds, situated on the eastern island. My naptha is periodically backing up because its having catalysts for cracking to -whatever plastic precursor i forgot the name of- delivered by boat... which can get stuck behind some unloading boat leading to my fuel oil running dry.
I also have a boat for collecting the products of excess mineral water crystallization, which delivers to the top of the central artery, causing intermittent saturation. When this happens my floatation cells run out of purified water.
Currently coping with the fact that I have to use basic paper making tech to make blue science which I need to research paper tech which doesn't require I set up brown algae which I'm going to tear down once I don't need it anymore.
All in all a good factory.

holy hell dude. first time i've seen someone use boats for seablock surprisingly enough. is it not annoying to fuel them?

I'm not pulling up my factory right now, but sulfur is not waste. If you're throwing away any sulfur you're going to regret it. I ended up making a few plants specifically to make me more sulfur.
I stopped a bit after the second? tier of module because I needed to make 371 chemical plants on my quest for a reasonable about of rubber, and also I was regretting that I hadn't started up tree farming significantly earlier in my run. This is a lie the true reason is that the new train stuff was revealed and it made my partner, who was doing more a city block set up rather than bulk balanced factory, give up to wait for its release. We had a line down the middle you weren't allowed to cross unless there was a prenegotiated trade. Most of those were when someone had a brown-out.
I had 6x plants, one for each crystal type that was something like 20-30 of each step of the processing which ended in 4 of the last building. I can't remember if it was 200 or 100 each of the electrolizers required to feed the plants.

I'm not saying it's waste, its just that I have crystal sludge being treated with mineral water which is expelling sulfuric waste water but which is at the same time on the opposite side of my factory from my sulfur dioxide plants requiring me to snake all that waste water back to the main network. Repeat this scenario for a dozen or so fluids. Don't think for a second I don't understand the sulfur loop. I shoulda said nitric waste water, nobody will die on a hill defending nitric waste water. I'd die on a hill for nitric wase water.

Actually, they have 5 fuel slots so if you have your main fuel line double as the boat fuel line you'll brown out every time you add another boat to the system due to most fuel items having stacks of 100. I didn't put any planning into the routes for the boats so at this point they all go counterclockwise until something, or more likely everything fucks up. Luckily I recently finished a rocket fuel cell(not to be confused with base game item) from crystal slurry setup the size of that westernmost island, so now I'm having all of the non-charcoal boats fuel there.
Fueling stations are basically the same as what a train would have, though due to the horrid form my factory has evolved into, depots aren't able to keep boats from leaving as it would eventually gridlock the system.

Gleba is annoying to get into initially and expand on.
