Dead server revitalization

Post by Imitates-The-Lizards » #742385

Hello candidates.

During this current term, we saw several ideas floated for revitalizing or improving our lower population servers, such as changing Bagil to MRP, turning Bagil into a player's table server, restricting less populated servers like Sybil to only more popular maps to incentivise people to play on them, etc. Some of these fell apart because the current headmins became super busy or something, apparently.

So, do you have any plans or ideas you'll try to implement to boost server populations, which you will use your headmin status to enact?

I want to implement Bagil into players table server, I think it goes well with my events workshop idea and will overall be enjoyable. For the other more dead server, Sybil, I have less ideas but I think it would be cool to have it as a place to run some legacy maps with some "Supreme Sybilite" ping role or something to make people hop on, after that you have to hope some people choose to stay for the following round, and that the following round is fun enough to where they come back for the day after because they had a good time. My hope is that we can reseed Sybil, slowly but surely, its not gonna be the fastest process but I want to see it through. Getting NA parts of the admin team involved to admin sybil more often will also be needed to sustain any population built up.

More preannounced events in less populated servers, different set of maps for different servers outside of MRP, maybe also differentiate servers with different threat amounts so we have a more high action or lower action server outside of turning it MRP.
I must admit I am unfamiliar with what is meant with a player's table server.

less server bans.

more options to do less punishing penalties like pacifism banning someone or making them only able to select some kind of punishment role for a little bit.

I don't know much on the factors that caused people to stop playing on Sybil and Basil. One thing I do know is that a server having no pop leads to nobody joining.
The best idea I can think of is organizing big events to try to get the ball rolling on server pop, and see if people stick around for more rounds after.

Though this is something everybody tends to propose and it hasn't worked yet so far. I would have to try and come with up with some event ideas to put my money where my mouth is.

My understanding of the host vote platform implies that he is not open to this.
So it might be better to focus on what we can add rather than what we can change.

We are capable of spontaneously spinning up new servers and I always thought it would be cool to have special servers that are like 100% cult for a weekend or something so that people can get novelty and also get a chance to brush up on an antag that is really complex. It might be a bit arcadey but mechanical skill is important even if you're an MRP player.

At the end of the day bagil and sybil existed as a dyad because if there were only two /tg/station players left in the world they would be playing on separate servers. There will always be people who want to get away from other people. I bet if there was a terry2 or a manuel2 those pops would eventually spread between them. Unfortunately, Campbell is like 1.5xManny 1.5xTerry and meets neither of the server populations interest/niche.
