Heres a challenge I have for all the ideas-guys out there.
Lay out a design a feature that allows the denizens of space station 13 to preform bite attacks. No code explanation required, just tell me how you would implement it assuming you have master coding skills and can make anything work.
Consider trying to meet some of these criteria
- It should bring some value to the game by being implemented
- It should not completely disrupt our combat system
- It should not lead to people opting to bite things when it wouldn't make logical sense
- There should be some circumstances where it would make logical sense to bite things
- It should have some level of interaction with the other systems in our game

make bear traps wearable on the mask slot so you can headbutt them and give them the big chomp

I'd give it to lizards, and give them an icon that functionally let's them "equip" their teeth, basically always giving them a glass shiv at will, maybe add a chance for biting an armoured player to deal minor brute damage to the lizards head to reflect chipping a tooth.

Yeah just give them and any other beast races a "bear fangs" verb similar to the slap verb. It gives you an in hand object that does a biting attack. The only advantage I could really see it having is a higher chance of bleed, maybe a higher chance of getting infected. But also wouldn't it be kind of OP for certain races to have a much better attack by default? Maybe give every race the capability of biting, but the effectiveness varies by race. It would be awesome to have a way to grab people with your teeth like in Dwarf Fortress. It would also be fun to have some kind of mutation that allows for fangs that let you inject chems into people with a bite.Lacran wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 4:31 am I'd give it to lizards, and give them an icon that functionally let's them "equip" their teeth, basically always giving them a glass shiv at will, maybe add a chance for biting an armoured player to deal minor brute damage to the lizards head to reflect chipping a tooth.

I will add that we do have the coding technology already implemented to call your head item for an attach when you harm intent someone with an empty hand, so a hand item wouldn't be the only way to go. Only monkies do it currently.

When grabbing or being grabbed, biting does extra damage.
If you have no arms, you can bite to drag (slowly) but also does damage.
Higher chance of infection when bitten if the biter is infected with something.
Felinids/Lizards have a higher chance of causing bleeding but maybe do less brute?.
Moths cannot bite.
Plasma men cannot bite.
Cannot bite if wearing any kind of mask.
Cannot be bitten if wearing specific clothing.
