I been playing terry for months, everyone goes FR LMAO LOL wheteher its in say or emote text. netspeak by the rules are considered IC in OOC
Its either enforce it to the core and OOC in IC warn/ban people who use them constantly
or don't enforce it all and just kill the netspeak rule

Seems to me like a code fix where if you say "lmao, lol, ptdr, etc" it should just get corrected to *laughs or similar.

that could be a way to fix issues like typing lmao translating into laughing my ass off, but in the end its still netspeak and people are aware of this rule but they keep walking over it because its never gets enforced or very weakly to the point it just becomes yeah if the admin has a bad day you get the schtick

lol and lmao are both in the hard filter for IC chat, it should be impossible for anyone to say either of them unless they're abusing an exploit.

Its already against the rules, the issue is that its not ahelped enoug. If you see someone doing OOC in IC (like netspeak) just ahelp it and someone will deal with it.

Thats what i currently do but at most times there aren't admins online aswell and no admin in the right mind would go log dive for something minor than a simple lmao said in chat for previous round

As i said either in say or emote i think the filter only applies for words that are said trough say command and not emote command so you can have lmao's or lol's even infact i have a clip that somoene is doing this exact thing

It genuinely takes seconds from getting the player name in an ahelp to having a single player's say/emote/attack logs filtered and available to read. There's a lot of shortcuts for common information.

I agree with this but i also think most players are hesistant of ahelping this kind of behaviour because well its minor in their eyes they don't really care about it while its a rule break otherwise i'll be able to page you a whole list of players who said it the last previous 5 days

Also I did a scan of your last 50 shift of logs to get an idea of what you were talking about. Here's the tl;dr of the results:

Code: Select all

[209009] [2023-06-24 17:13:37.144] GAME-SAY: Razorback555/(revenant (39)) "lmao" (Xenobiology Lab (178,80,2))
[209011] [2023-06-24 18:36:39.578] GAME-SAY: maran123/(Kane Ochaco) "lmaoo" (Hydroponics (134,115,2))
[209129] [2023-06-26 17:42:04.739] GAME-EMOTE: Radioprague/(alien) ayy lmao (Medbay Treatment Center (122,94,3))
[209129] [2023-06-26 17:42:26.554] GAME-EMOTE: Radioprague/(alien) ayy lmao (Medbay Treatment Center (122,94,3))
[209129] [2023-06-26 17:45:15.789] GAME-EMOTE: Radioprague/(alien) ayy lmao (Station Asteroid (159,123,2))
[209129] [2023-06-26 18:21:38.043] GAME-EMOTE: Petalmeat/(Minnie Kanaga) lmao (Escape Pod One (45,124,2))
[209257] [2023-06-28 19:38:01.364] GAME-SAY: litberries/(Sloan Underwood) (Personality Commune to mrstrawman/(Sloan Underwood)) "rest in piss lol" (CentCom Recovery Wing (195,84,1))
[209316] [2023-06-29 16:53:00.307] GAME-SAY: Joe Grits/(Joe Hecata) "lol2cat" FORCED by brain damage (Mansus Flesh Gate (134,123,6))
[209318] [2023-06-29 17:27:49.298] GAME-SAY: GregyEggy/(Horatio San'layn) "ey llmao" (Escape Pod One (20,98,3))
[209393] [2023-06-30 19:58:03.494] GAME-SAY: Smailypro10/(Jack Thompson) "TRIMLol" (Pharmacy (102,103,2))
[209401] [2023-06-30 22:21:37.870] GAME-EMOTE: Sk1Wass3r/(Talon Mckendrick-Fire) lols (Abandoned Cabin (160,65,4))
[209401] [2023-06-30 22:21:39.178] GAME-EMOTE: Sk1Wass3r/(Talon Mckendrick-Fire) lmaos (Abandoned Cabin (160,65,4))
Revenants are able to lmao freely, players are (intentionally or otherwise) just misspelling lmao like lmaoo and llmao. And there are some instances of players dropping that shit in emotes.

So this is at least a thing that occasionally happens, and my search wasn't a particularly robust one (I just filtered for "lol" and "lmao" from the logs, there's probably plenty of other instances of netspeak being used IC and especially in emotes as well as other unique spellings/misspellings of lol and lmao).

Yeah so fair this looks like a daily basis thing so far in the rounds i parpicated in its just a major issue of morality code of players not ahelping that because genuinly its too small for them to care, and this leads to other players doing it too cuz they think its ok since others are doing it aswell

And thats just for the lol and lmao instances fr would probaly add on it too and other netspeak related words

All you or anyone else really needs to do is copy the line of text where they're bypassing the filter and paste it into an adminhelp. I wouldn't use urgent for this (we wouldn't classify it as major grief) but some of us are trying to do better about watching the adminhelp channel on Discord for incoming non-urgent ones when nobody's on.

Yeah and i respect you all for that using your free time to reinforce the rules it can be quite tiring to be frank

True facts. I've opened up a PR extending the IC world filter to emotes, mind you. Whether the maint team merge it or not is up to them, but at the very least it could cut down on OOC in IC in emotes.
