its gameplay is really simple compared to other games of the same genre (DMC, Bayonetta etc.), the level design is absolute garbage (gameplay and aesthethic-wise), and the only real cool parts are the boss fights

the story is a little bit funny and has some nice memes, but that's it

Don't really agree with it being simple, but it is different. There IS a lot of complexity and techniques under the hood in MGR, but because there isn't as much of a style-based ranking system, there's less incentive for it. This causes this impression that it's simpler, but it isn't quite as bad. The environments are pretty dull (although so are DMC V's largely, and this is because MGR is deliberately trying to look like MGSIV, the drabbest game alive) although I would want more enemy variety. Boss fights are absolutely kino though.

I honestly also feel its story is overlooked past memes. The game is a perfect sequel to 4, whilst also being a complete and utter denial of MGS2's themes and in fact, much of the series. This weird juxtaposition it has by bringing back the concept of Raiden as a player analog and reaching the opposite answer of 2 (Give war a chance!) is my favorite part of it by far.

While he got better in 4, Revengeance is Raiden's redemption for me.

I like Raiden in MGS2. But I didn't play it until like 2013 so I didn't experience the disappointment associated with him from not getting to play Snake. In MGS4 he gets too many long, poorly written cutscenes about his son.

I beat bladewolf in like 20 seconds on Sam's story thing.

Maybe it'd be good if the boss fight wasn't just monsoon runniny away from you the whole time. I like Sam's theme the most because I got to hear the full version during the fight.

Of course the classic ones are, well, classics, but on a latest playthrough Red Sun really grew on me.

Rules of Nature is pretty good in the Sam DLC if you time the metal gear ray fight right. The timing is really really tight though

Today I pirated Metal Gear Solid 2 from gog-games.com using JDownloader and played the Tanker segment for about fifteen minutes before getting bored and quitting. I used V's Fix to fix the resolution and use a DS4 controller. I don't plan on playing it again. I got the trophy for beating it on European Extreme without being spotted on PS3 back in 2013 so I think I've pretty much put it to bed. I didn't platinum it but that's never going to happen.
