It hurts my eyes, and its not like we are sleeping anyway. It was cute for flavor the first few times, but the feeling passed a long time ago.
Its a config options, so headmin stuff.

Yes I could do without the constant eye strain

It should just be manually activated as a low power mode.

It would make more sense if we had any sort of sleep cycle system.

It doesn’t really make much sense. Like Radbury said, it’s not like the crew actually uses night lighting as an indication that they should sleep. Even if we added a need for sleep, there aren’t nearly enough dorms to accommodate lowpop, let alone highpop.
It’s nice ambiance in my opinion, but I wouldn’t mind if there were adjustments.

It's nice eye candy for like 10 rounds until eye strain kicks in and it becomes a pain in the ass. It doesn't even make sense thematically since the game doesn't have shifts or sleep cycles.

I wouldn't mind if it was just the halls that had it. Sitting in the brightly-lit robo workshop with the hall somewhat dark does give the feeling of night shift.
But I don't really like my work area being dark.

It's exclusively annoying, there should at least be an easy way to disable it per room like a button on the APC or something

There is a button on the APC but its access locked defeating the point entirely. Some maps like box also dont have APC's easily accessible, so this isnt always a good solution.

As an added bonus of annoyance, AI's can no longer access maint-facing APCS (though they can see them), so you can't even ask the AI to flip the switch for you in most rooms on Box.

Have it as is but make light switches have a day/on/off option trifecta, where you can turn on the normal light in your workstation. Would give that feeling of working a night shift a little better.

Its a cute fluff idea, that sadly gets in the way of reasonable game play.
No one really slows down for the night cycle or even does anything different, its just harder to see stuff for a seemingly random period of time.
Now if lighting dimmed like that when there was lower power, THAT be neat.

I already tried adding a toggle to that but it got closed:

this clearly means that deleting the feature is the only choice and half measures like this one are not acceptable

Just make night lighting a publicly-accessible toggle on all APCs with either a cooldown period or local ID-access-dependent permissions protocols in order to avoid abuse. I already hack into APCs as bartender just to avoid having the bar turn into Moe's Tavern half the time.

I like night lighting and I dont understand people who say it hurts their eyes like jesus wept its like 2 levels lower than fullbright
Changing it to only be the public areas might be a neat thing though

This might shock you but people have different sensibilities and getting headaches from eye strain isnt something I choose to do

Having it be a toggbale option on light switches makes it so work stations can be lit when in use (can even turn back to night when inactive for flavor) but hallways are kept nice and dark)

Aurora has night lighting but you don't need APC access to turn it on or off

My opinion, remove it and make it so lighting loses intensity in a similar way when there's low power, as a power saving measure.
